About this listen

The city of the gods. Elantris once stood as the symbol of all that is beautiful. A sprawling metropolis of unrivaled grandeur, it was a symbol of power and strength, built to be as imposing as it was magnificent.

The only thing more glorious than the city itself was its inhabitants, Godlike beings, with silvery skin and hair of the purest flowing white. Able to create powerful magics with a mere wave of their hands, the Elantrians were able to heal mortal wounds and create any object they desired. To be an Elantrian was to be without sickness, without pain, and without want.

And anyone could become a god. Through a process known as the "Shaod", a normal person could go to bed one night and awake the next morning to throw away the shackles of mortality and become a being of incomparable power and grace. With Elantris as their beacon, the light inside all humanity was allowed to shine, elevating it to new heights.

But Elantris fell...10 years ago.

Performed by James Konicek, Danny Gavigan, Lily Beacon, Richard Rohan, David Coyne, Thomas Penny, Jason Stiles, Thomas Simpson, Tony Nam, Elizabeth Jernigan, Kate Foster, Tim Getman, Sherri Simpson, Mary McGowan, Casie Platt, Jonathan Watkins, Michael Glenn, Eric Messner, Colleen Delany, Sunny Lasskey, Mort Shelby, Terence Aselford, Nanette Savard, Scott McCormick, Andy Clemence, James Lewis, Steven Carpenter, Timothy Lynch.

not sanderson’s finest, however the performance was exemplary

the graphic audio version of this audiobook is too good to miss. naturally, this was one of sanderson’s earlier novels, so the storytelling is not quite there yet. however its a fair starting point for the cosemere universe

Great story and voice acting

Although other people were complaining of the audio quality, I have enjoyed a lot this version. It was not difficult for me to understand. And the diversity of voices in the cast makes it so much easier to remember who is who in a story so full of main characters. The story is also really good, with incredible plot ideas. The disease (not spoiler, first few minutes) is incredibly well thought and used in a very good way in the book.

They mispronounce Hoid

With the first two parts it took a bit to get past the vast changes in pronunciation through the story. I was eventually able to get over that initial shock and the unenthusiastic monotone of the narrator and was enjoying the story as usual... then they mispronounced Hoid. They called him "HOE-ide". It makes me wonder if any of them have read anything in the cosmere universe before this or if they care about the fans at all.

Excellent but noisy

The story and characters are compelling and the performances by the actors are phenomenal. The sound effects and music are enhancers to the experience.. buuuut there were plenty of times where the sound effects and/or music overshadowed the dialogue or narration and I could hardly hear what was being said.
