Publisher's summary
Set in a world inspired by the ancient Egyptian myths of the Ogdoad and the Ennead, "Ennead" follows the journey of a young man named Ennead who hails from a secluded mountain society. His encounter with a unicorn sets in motion a chain of events that will challenge his perception of self and his role in the world. Forced to leave behind his home and family, Ennead embarks on a perilous adventure through the seven lower kingdoms, realms his society has long looked down upon both figuratively and literally.

Ashley Perrin is fresh out of college and starting a job as a community liaison for the Third District–the city’s only sector with more alien residents than humans. Ashley’s barely found where the paper clips are kept when she’s beset with constituent complaints–from too much noise at the Annual Lupidian Celebration Parade to a trip-and-fall chicken to a very particular type of alien hornet that threatens the very city itself. And if that’s not terrifying enough, Ashley is next up at the office karaoke night.

Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Best fantasy novel I've read in a long time
As a long time fantasy reader this novel felt fresh and kept me engaged and wanting more. The story and it's characters are well fleshed out and complex. Performance by the narrater created an immersive experience with distinct character voices that pulled me in and kept me from wanting to hit pause.
This is definitely must read/must listen for anyone with an interest in the fantasy genre. Author Vore is definitely a writer to keep an eye on.
My only complaint with the series this far is that I have to wait for the next book to hit audible.

fantastic story with amazing reader
I read a lot of fantasy type books and this one is up there with some of the most entertaining ones I've read. while the book contains many amazing aspects, the part that stood out to me was the amazing world building. the book does a great job of creating an entirely new world to step into with unique cultures, places, and histories. and while you learn about each place you can delve deeper and learn about the connections between everything in the world and world of Egyptian mythology. I can honestly say I haven't seen a mythology incorporated into a world quite so elegently and subtly as in Ennead. in addition to all that, not enough can be said about the voice actor who expertly brings the characters to life in this audiobook. as everyone on audible knows, a reader can make or break whether or not a book is bearable to sit through no matter the quality of the material and the reader here did not disappoint. he manages to capture unique personalities of characters and reads with great pacing. I'm looking forward to Jeffrey Hawkins continue to read more audiobooks in the future. Ultimately, I 100% recommend checking out this title!

Outstanding story and narration.
My Grandson is doing the narrative on this book. I originally began listening to hear his voice. I quickly was caught up in the story and both he and the author have excelled expectations. Years ago I listened to Stephen king's The Dark Tower on book tape. Ennead gave me the same sense of wonder and pleasure as that long novel. Congrats to the author and the narrator.

I incurred psychic damage because of this book (in the best way though, dw)
Despite being almost exclusively an audiobook consumer, I will have to carve out some time to sit down and physically read Book 2. I can’t sit on the cliffhanger and wait until the next audio recording is finished. Don’t worry though Hawkins, I’ll be back for a listen when I’m needing to brush up on the plot line before reading Book 3.
I had no idea what to expect going into this book, and upon reading the summary, I had even less of a clue as I am no Egyptian myth buff. However, that didn’t matter a bit as Vore does an awesome job setting the scene and I was able to enjoy (and appreciate) the intricacies of Ennead’s world. Preferring a bit more grit and conflict to the stories I consume, I feared the book was going to be too much on the fluffy magical adventure side due to the summary’s mention of a unicorn, (biased I know), but I was so dead wrong. The named premise within the summary also seemed pretty classic and standard, but what I found within Ennead’s pages (or minutes) was most definitely not.
Vore did an incredible job serving up a wide variety of settings, characters, relationships, and more. I was seriously engrossed after just a short period of listening and by the end my coworkers were having to regularly snap me back into reality as I would just stall out mid-task. If I were in Ennead’s world, I would be committing war crimes over the previously mentioned cliffhanger, and that is not an understatement.
TLDR, get out of my review and get into The Chronicles of the Eight. You’ll have a great time, I promise!

Wow! Fantastic storyline and narration!
I can’t wait for the next installment! Elizabeth Vore is a great writer and her story, Ennead, was a fantastic read. I was immediately interested and was able to finish the story within hours of starting it. The story was thoughtful and the world that main character, Ennead, lives in comes alive via the amazing narration by Jeffrey Hawkins! The dictation was clear and moving and that helped bring this amazing and unique tale to life so that my imagination was held captive throughout. We get to follow Ennead’s growth from poor youth to maturing young man as his narrow worldview expands to reveal that he is on an epic journey of mystery and adventure. Each character is vividly apparent during the narration and comes to life while listening to the book. I’m hooked and would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for their next fantasy series.
