Publisher's summary

Missing and presumed dead, Nick awakes in his bed, bloodied and bruised with no memory of where he has been or what happened to him.

As Nick’s friends gather around him to help discover the source of his lost memories, they begin to understand that Nick did not return alone. Something dark is growing inside him.

After the darkness forces Nick to go on the run, a stranger appears, knowing more about their situation than they themselves do. The stranger also gives a thin hope of stopping the darkness and its plan. Reality itself will pay the price if the force inside Nick cannot be stopped, forcing his friends to decide where the line between loss and loyalty is drawn.

Suspense Filled Journey!

Excellent sci-fi, thriller type of book! Can Josh be my long-lost nephew!!?!?? Had me guessing until the very end!

Amazing story with surprises and thrill throughout

James Luthi has wrote an incredible story. The character building at the beginning of the book seems a little confusing until you get further into the story and it all makes sense. It allows you to get personal and deep into the psyche of the main characters and their relationships with each other.

For anyone who loves Sci-Fi and thrillers this is definitely one to read/listen to! I look forward to more books from this author and hopefully this book turns into a series!!!

YOU'RE IMMEDIATELY INVESTED

OK people.... so here's the deal. I'm not really a sci-fi girl. I'm more true crime.
HOWEVER....

I just finished this audio in a day and a half. I COULD NOT turn it off!! From the opening sequence your immediately filled with these racing thoughts of different scenarios your brain tries to pull from crime shows we've all watched yet you have nothing... and you're invested.

The characters are people you'd be friends with, people you know. Situations presented are real life that you may even be living. Relating to these characters happen so organically, you can easily replace one of them for yourself.

The dramatic scene transitions were deliberate, graphic and brilliant. They catch you off guard and to take you back to that feeling from the one nightmare from childhood you can't forget. And for those like me who are a bit ADHD or listen while you work; it made me literally stop and say out loud, Wait what??? And a few times needed to back up refocus and ask myself OK James, where are you going with this?

Not only is this a sci-fi ride, it carries you on an emotional roller coaster I didn't see coming. At times I found myself genuinely angry, heartbroken, frustrated and exhausted just like the characters in the story.

The ending, sets up the sequel potential and leaves you desperate for it. Because... you gotta know!!

I was fortunate to be able to have a back and forth with James a bit about the book after I finished. We talked about the Good vs Evil, the world's unknowing salvation and technology not yet known to mere mortals... and that's all true.

But for me it was the friendships, the loyalty, the sacrifices and the true bonds that give us meaning and strength to accomplish amazing things.

WELL DONE!! I'm so proud of what you've accomplished, your first time out of the gate. It truly is 12 hours well spent

Monotone and Cliche Tropes

Only 3 chapters in and the narrator has been pretty dull, every character sounds the same. Conversations feel stiff and the could you be any less imaginative then naming a dog, Rusty? The first female character that appears in the book starts out sobbing (full transparency, I’m a man) and this just feels so cringy.
