Partial story. Needs editing.

First off, I really enjoyed this “book.” The story telling and character development was uncharacteristicically good for a sci-farm.
The narration is excellent although the narrator should have prepped a bit more as he often mixed voices and accents across characters making it hard to discern who was saying what until the inevitable “<character name> said” phrase. That said, the narrator really carried this book.

However, this isn’t a full story. it’s an intro with the bare minimum of a story arch required to meet some publishers definition of a novel. it’s obvious that you need to keep reading to get any level of satisfaction in the story.

Also, the editing was pretty bad even for someone who knows nothing about editing. This book is super repetitive. It keeps repeating the “Ben Ryder” phrase. eg “He IS Ben Ryder!”, “BE Ben Ryder!”, “BE MY Ben Ryder!”, “YOU ARE Ben Ryder!”, “I am Ben Ryder!”, “Ben Ryder is a man of HONOR!” etc.

I pity the poor sods who will inevitably create a drinking game in which you have to drink ever time they say “Ben Ryder” or “Mad Harry Madden.” They will likely die of alcohol poisoning.

All that said, I just downloaded the 2nd book. :)

Couldn't stop listening

We took this on road trip and didn't get it finished by the time we returned home. Just spent the whole day today finishing it. Awesome storyline and humorous as hell. Can't wait for sequel.

What made the experience of listening to Extracted the most enjoyable?

Superb dialog, sympathetic characters, great story line at least for this volume, an outstanding reader (Prekopp brings the characters to life), and, oh yes, a time travel plot that makes sense. Not deep, however. Just "fast food scifi" as another reviewer indicated. Please hurry up and get the second volume recorded or I may have to buy the printed book and (horrors) actually read it.

Oh Yaaaasss!

Whew! What a ride. This action packed jaunt works extremely well. It is whisked to a thick, frothy foam with &quot;no-reveal&quot; plots and sexy backstories that mingle science and history with imagination. The dollops of character development are hah-uge (translation: &quot;huge&quot; yes, but actually colossal). Our three heroes are likable, relatable, and believable, AND despite the underlying time travel theme, the credibility thread is super strong throughout the entire stretch of story yumminess. Oh and by the way, the bad guys are as interesting and have as much &quot;draw&quot; power as the main characters. Yaaaasss!!

The narrator massages each character with an &quot;Oh so right!&quot; reality rub that sidesteps any notion that you're listening to a story someone else made up. The man's got skills! Amen!

Wow!!

I dont know how anybody could give this book anything less than 5 stars! AMAZING! I will admit that the coming around of one of the characters did feel a bit drawn out, but we know that the story will continue so taking in that factor, I believe that it was one of the best examples of character development that I have ever seen. I could listen to a continuation of this story for the rest of my life and be completely content. what more could you possibly want? I guess some people just have to be a critic. this is TOP NOTCH writing on steroids. absolutely brilliant!

Damn good story. Awesome performance.

I can't say enough good about this narrator! I will listen to anything of his I can find. Also a damn good story. There are a couple of things that seem like holes, but it's hard to tell with just the first book. This book is definitely a setup for the next. There is plenty of action in this book but it's all related to setup of story... this book never reaches the actual events being led up to... just the preparation for them. A little too much training time in the bunker for me.
That is my only complaint. I am buying the next in the series. This is a damn good time travel book with an excellent performance. I'd do it again, and I feel sure most others will enjoy it too.

engaging scifi and human interaction

I was pretty much hanging on every word, feeling for the characters and agonizing it might end soon and force me to wait for another book before I got some answers to the questions rushing in my mind. you know how that feels? certainly worthy of a listen, especially if you love the archetypes for loyalty, honor and a powerful drive to do what it takes to do the right thing at any cost.

Disappointing. A shoddy portrayal of women and a lackluster story that doesn't pick up till almost the end.

a really fun book. it had me wanting more.
very well narrated. i highly recommend it.

This was a story I struggled to stop listening too , listened to it in under 24 hours
