Good Example of it's genre

A very well written book it took me by surprise honestly a very enjoyable experience. Well written characters and a plot I'm very much interested in seeing how it continues.

Magical Martial Art School with cute cat girl

The story manage to be a fun world full of chinese inspiration which I have not seen before. It is fun, imaginative, and you get two cute girls that might become a couple in the future dealing with their inner and outer struggle together

An old magic trick with a spectacular new finisher

As of wring this review I have Listened to all three volumes that are out currently. At first i was rather apathetic to the story. It seemed like the same old song and dance that most cultivation stories follow, OP MC, Effortless seeming natural talent, constantly outstripping everyone around them, constant praise about how amazing they are.... blah blah blah. It didn't help that i really didn't like one of the main characters do to personal reasons and that Cindy Kay was the narrator of one of my biggest disappointing experience with audible to date. However, as i went a long i started to realize that like a magician using the bones of an old trick, it is meant to give you a false sense of security so that when they pull of the new finisher it is that much more impactful. The writing is great, the plot comprehensive and focused, the characters complicated and interesting. This story is very good at sneaking up on you and hooking you. I look forward to seeing where it all lands. Also it made me like Cindy Kay again!!!

P.S. This story seems heavily inspired by Steven Universe so...

The Novels are fantastic.

The audiobook is great. But fair warning. You might get sucked into it. The books gets a lot better and yes. You can get book 3 on their Patreon. As well as book 2 on kindle unlimited.

Wonderful

An intricate and wonder story, that explores topics and perspectives that traditional cultivation novels scorn.

What a neat into to this style.

I'm not 100% Sure what you would call this style of Fantasy but it is outside my normal range and I loved it. Refreshing for someone who mostly reads fiction from a Western viewpoint to see one based on Eastern Writings and Mythology. I look forward to reading subsequent books in this series and by this Author.

OMG they were roommates

Read this story as the webnovel. It's a fun interpretation of wuxia/xianxia novels with lesbians! it's great to have it in audiobook form now so I can listen to it while I'm at work. the characters in this story are fun and starting the series over from the beginning is quite enjoyable.

Lesbian anime version of Forge of Destiny

Overall I liked this book, even if it had a forced pg-13 feel at times, and the only reason it's not a full 5 star is the narrator having a lack of distinct voices and the lack of slice of life padding, I'd have preferred the book to be longer with more exploring of the social relationships. Not only would it help to learn more of the side characters, it'd also give me a actual chance to learn some names. I call it a anime version, because of the character with a literally bakemonogatari style catch phrase and the tickle fights and shower scene.

Spoilers for this book and Forge below

This book has many similar things to forge that I'd be surprised if one didn't read the other, from the gutter rat mc saying she's protected her body on the streets to the emotionally stunted lesbian roommate, the first people being met are a problematic noble and their strong silent retainer, and the unapproachable "princess" with strange powers that discourage friends, among other things, it's like they took character traits and just threw them in a bowl and mixed them all up.

Such a fun listen!

I feel that these kinds of light stories live and die on essentially 3 things: characters, setting and narrator and I want to applaud the writer and voice actor for getting everything right. I am left wanting more, but not at an awkward moment. The ending seems natural for a multi-piece story line.

--Potential spoilers (but not really)--

Readers should already know that this involves a sweet romance between female characters. The story is also fairly light on romantic elements, though the listener can obviously see them approaching from the context and I didn’t find there to be any kind of annoying shenanigans by the author getting in the way. Heads up that it may happen in the next book. I personally don't mind that kind of thing so long as it is kept light and isn't overwhelming.
