Mercy Thompson has been hailed as "a heroine who continues to grow and yet always remains true to herself."* Now she's back, and she'll soon discover that when the fae stalk the human world, it's the children who suffer....

Tensions between the fae and humans are coming to a head. And when coyote shapeshifter Mercy and her Alpha werewolf mate, Adam, are called upon to stop a rampaging troll, they find themselves with something that could be used to make the fae back down and forestall out-and-out war: a human child stolen long ago by the fae.

Defying the most powerful werewolf in the country, the humans, and the fae, Mercy, Adam, and their pack choose to protect the boy no matter what the cost. But who will protect them from a boy who is fire touched?

War? Peace? Warewolf vs. Faye

This ninth installment is very well done. A plot that keeps you listening. This is a tough one to put down. There are parts of this book you will want to rewind and listen to several times in a good way. Mercedes and Adam take center stage as everyone clashes. We get to see many of our favorites as this story unfolds. Brigss finds a way to weave important contemporary messages into this supernatural narrative -- in a subtle way.

This story has a hint of romance, but is mostly action. It is fast paced and doesn't stall anywhere. Those who like supernatural will enjoy this. You will miss a great deal if you don't listen to the earlier novels. You can read this first, but you might be lost because of the many characters and the nuances as Briggs relies on the backstories of the past. Kings narration is superb.

I highly recommend this novel. I am anxious to listen to the next installment. Thumbs up and give it a read.

I love Mercy Thompson, and Patricia Briggs writes

Patricia Briggs writes with so smoothly. It's almost poetic. Great story. Love the love between Mercedes and Adam. It's great. I love that she's kickass. She's a strong woman with a man who loves her for being the way she is.

Not the right reader

What disappointed you about Fire Touched?

The reader - mercy is a tough gal. The readers voice makes her sound old and the men aren't better. I tried to listen for awhile but she doesn't seem to represent Mercy's character.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fire Touched?

I didn't finish - I will read the book instead.

How could the performance have been better?

Change to a different reader. Sophie Eastlake or jennifer Ikeda.

A little scatter shot

This book felt a little all over the place for me. The events didn't seem to flow as naturally as they usually do in this series. Beyond that, it was a great story. Adam does something that has needed to happen for a very long time. I'm most happy with how real their relationship has become. In the beginning (all the way back in Iron Kissed) Adam and Mercy's relationship felt forced. Ever since River Marked, however, their marriage has seemed more and more real. I feel like this is a bit of a transitional book, that the world of Mercy Thompson is changing in major ways, and this is big "nudge" in that direction.
