Publisher's summary

From renowned thriller author, Jenny Siler, comes a story about a young American woman who awakens on the side of the road with no memory of who she is.

Discovered by a group of Benedictine nuns in a muddy ditch by the side of a French country road, Eve has only good American dentistry and a tattered Moroccan ferry ticket scribbled with Arabic letters to point her to her identity. That, and a bullet to her brain that she miraculously survives, even as it destroys her memory. Only a few scattered violent images remain, along with one undeniable physical fact: she has had a child.

Plagued by horrific nightmares, Eve makes a life for herself within the convent's walls. But when the nuns who have sheltered her for a year are brutally massacred and the one terrified survivor declares to Eve, 'They came for you', Eve realises that, whoever she was in her past life, she had powerful enemies, enemies who still wish to harm her and those around her.

Just a half step ahead of her pursuers, she lights out for Morocco in a desperate attempt to retrace her steps, uncover her past and figure out who's after her, and why, before it's too late.

Editorial reviews

This well-written, fast-paced thriller will hook listeners from the opening sentence and keep them engaged throughout the dark, propulsive story. An amnesiac known as "Eve" wakes up in a field in France and is taken in by a group of nuns, who are later brutally murdered by men searching for her. Eve flees the country in a desperate attempt to figure out who she is and why she's a wanted woman. Performer Betty Bobbitt's dignified, matronly voice creates an emotional attachment with the narrator, and her weighty tones convey the gravity of the trouble in which Eve finds herself. Listeners who love well-done thrillers with female protagonists and an occasional touch of travelogue will enjoy this one.

Narrator is entirely wrong for this audio book

This does not need an elderly voice. The protagonist is a youngish American woman, resolute and smart. Good story (I love Jenny Siler) but it’s spoilt as an audiobook.
