Publisher's summary

Lost meets Stranger Things in this eerie, immersive YA thriller, thrusting 17-year-old Sia into a reality where the waters in front of her and the jungle behind her are as dangerous as the survivors alongside her.

Audiofile said of the audio edition, "Dolandis's subtle performance creates a heightened sense of terror. The sequences detailing Sia's deep ocean dives will have listeners holding their breath."

Sia practically grew up in the water scuba diving, and wreck dives are run-of-the-mill. Take the tourists out. Explore the reef. Uncover the secrets locked in the sunken craft. But this time...the dive goes terribly wrong.

Attacked by a mysterious creature, Sia's boat is sunk, her customers are killed, and she washes up on a deserted island with no sign of rescue in sight. Waiting in the water is a seemingly unstoppable monster that is still hungry. In the jungle just off the beach are dangers best left untested. When Sia reunites with a handful of survivors, she sees it as the first sign of light.

Sia is wrong.

Between the gulf of deadly seawater in front of her and suffocating depth of the jungle behind her, even the island isn't what it seems.

Haunted by her own mistakes and an inescapable dread, Sia's best hope for finding answers may rest in the center of the island, at the bottom of a flooded sinkhole that only she has the skills to navigate. But even if the creature lurking in the depths doesn't swallow her and the other survivors, the secrets of their fractured reality on the island might.

Tide… or time

This book should’ve been titled fractured time instead. The storyline was more so about time being different on an island and not so much a thriller of the sea…

Interesting

I liked it, the story was a little confusing at times but I guess that's how the book was written.
I only wished we actually got to hear what that monster truly was because that's one creature I never want to encounter.
The mystery behind everything the spooky uneasiness that came from the island, all made for a story I couldn't bring myself to stop listening too.
The female characters all sounded the same, so when Steph and Sia were talking I would get lost which made for a confusing story at times, and I couldn't stand how no one communicated until the end, so much could have been avoided if they just talked.
A little disappointed we never found out what happened to the other survivor but oh well, bottom line this was a good story and I recommend it to anyone interested.

Exciting YA thriller with excellent performance!!

The story is interesting and very well-written, and allows readers to dive into the beauty and dangers of the ocean. This book also offers elements of science fiction, and grabs listeners' attention like no other with the help of excellent narration work. After reading this book, I'm definitely more inclined to take a diving lesson. Definitely worth a read!

Not Your Ordinary Fish Tale

The tension in this book ratchets up like holding your breath underwater. The first few chapters are a wonderful breath of fresh air, you can hold it through the middle part, and by the end your lungs are straining and you're grasping for the surface. When you finally break from the water's grasp you realize that the swirling tide isn't pulling you under. You'll probably also realize the sun is up and you finished the book in a night.

YA Thriller

YA Ocean Thriller

I selected this book based on the reviews that noted this as a good thriller. This book is a YA thriller about a young lady who works with her mother as a diver on a charter boat. Leading a group of tourist divers, diving a naval wreck, strange things begin to happen. An unexpected event leads to tragedy. The survivors face difficult odds and strange occurrences. The lead, Sia, reminisces about her family and circumstances. She has had to grow up too soon and is dealing with the consequences. While there is danger and some different elements, the focus is more on Six and the young survivors. While there is a monster, this book has more in common with the naval "Philadelphia Experiment" than a traditional sea monster story. The book maintains a human touch, but some of the YA situations and dialog gets tedious at times. Some of the events aren't explained and you don't know everything by the end. Not a bad effort, but definitely YA in its approach. Narration on the audio book was good.
