Publisher's summary

We leave shadows, not footprints. Newlywed Danny McKenna's honeymoon ends abruptly when he learns his father has died, uncannily, on the same day as his hero, Frank Sinatra. Returning home to his knotty Irish American family, Danny is confronted with a painful truth--while he knows everything about the famous singer, his own father is a mystery. Tasked with giving a eulogy for a man he hardly knows, Danny sets out to uncover his dad’s past--an immigrant's tale of mid-twentieth-century America and the harsh realities of WWII lived in stark contrast to Frank Sinatra's famously extravagant life.

Along the way, Danny's own demons nearly destroy him as he struggles to accept his father’s deepest secret--a journey that takes him into the heart of darkness before he learns to live in the light.

Fame, family, and forgiveness are among the many themes in Doug McIntyre's debut novel, a story full of vibrant scenery, gripping characters, humor, and profound moments of self-realization.

Frank's Shadow is a deeply (sometimes darkly) human story wrapped in the trappings of a delightfully gritty love letter to New York City's less glamorous neighborhoods.

Audiobook read by Michael O'Connell.

Fantastic

What an enjoyable read. So well written and a great story. So many pieces of Doug’s life are woven into Danny. Mets Sinatra, and ending up with such a lovely second wife. The wwii flashbacks were amazing. And the bender in NYC - what a hoot!! Thanks Doug for yet another enjoyable gift among so many others (your morning show, jazz recommendation, your weekly column and your worldview). Can’t wait to read you next one.

A Family Story

Everyone has the chance to be a villain or a hero, always more complex than what you see on the surface.

A Very Nice Listen

Wow! I hope there are more books coming in the future. Nice work! Our favorite radio personality can pen novels as well? This made my commute much more enjoyable! Although I cheated and finished it on my weekend. That good!

The story of a man from the greatest generation

Enjoyed the story moving swiftly and concisely as the writer takes you through the years of one man's life from hometown life to war as seen through his youngest son. The entire feel of the story appears melancholy and wistful with moments of laughs and historical remembrances added to give the reader a clear image of the timeline in one family's life upon their father's passing and the secrets he lived with that shaped his family and all who knew him as he shared a birthday with Frank Sinatra, his idol.
