Strong women, alpha warriors, so much fun

I first read the books and then when this set came up for sale, I had to get it. And it was great reliving the stories via audiobook. The women are all strong- whether of body or mind (in all cases, both) but the point is that they contribute to the relationship and although they are "saved" by the gladiators after being abducted from a space station near earth, they provide a lot of support and strength through the relationships. The books are a bit formulaic in that the hero and heroine find themselves in a quandary they need to get out of but there is so much action I don't mind.

Vivienne Leheny does a great job with the narration and playing multiple characters. I enjoyed her telling of the story.

Three in one

This is a fabulous series and to have the first three in the series all in one spot is wonderful!

We meet Harper, Regan, and Rory of Earth and once they've been abducted by aliens through a wormhole, we also see the gladiators of the House of Galen upon their rescues. Mmmm. Think Stargate, a little K & R, mixed with the Coliseum games of Rome.

Love. Great stories, characters, and chemistry.

It’s sweet

Love box sets! First time read for me with this author and it was a nice surprise. The characters are developed and genuinely relatable people. The plot/suspense elements are good but by the third book it gets a little repetitive... like again.. why can you only rescue one person at a time/book... and if the guys have been doing this for years... why aren’t they better/smarter at it. I will purchase more form this author but will space it out... like when I need a simple uplifting romance.

Infuriating

The first story was quite good until it seemed like Harper wanting to go after her friend was more important than Raydon’s needs; and continued to make his need seem less than; to the point of apologizing to her; for what! Raydon needs to find someone worthy; Harper was more like a spoiled needy brat…it’s all about me! Regan in the second book is also a pain in the butt; makes me cringe with some of the absolutely dumb stuff she does; if I didn't like the gladiators so much, this series would be a rap; Thoron could do so much better than your air-headedness.

great start

The first three books are great start that are definitely gonna suck you in. Hi if this is your genre of books as it is mine I doubt you’ll make it through all three before you’re buying the fourth book. It is candy for the years the performance was excellent as was the writing in my opinion. Enjoy them

Fantastic story line, interesting characters.

Anna Hackett creates a fascinating world. Her characters are developed well, and truly engaging. The environment is easy to imagine, with controversy and developments that flow through to each book. Romance and Heroism.

Good Start

Admittedly, I like Ms Hackett’s other sci-fi series a little bit better, she does not disappoint with this series so far. Generally, I prefer more storyline and fewer sex scenes but that would be my only complaint. Having said that, however, there is a good storyline with this series. Ms. Leheny, as usual, did an excellent job with the narration. She doesn’t read the story, she performs it.

Good escape

The story for each book definitely has a pattern that they all follow. I'm not sure if I would use a credit on one book, but if they bundled them again (books 4-6,7-9, etc) I would jump on it.

I liked the escape and the book wasn't all about sex. It was nice to have an actual plot that is developing through the stories aside from the lather rinse repeat plotline. The earthling characters get "rescued," they feel the need to save their friend who is also stranded, is assisted by some super hot dude who knows how to fight, they rescue the friend, and now the baton has been passed. There is a bit more conflict going on than that, how they got there, how their presence is changing Kor Magna, etc that I am interested to learn more about.

Some of the writing seems kind of poorly thought out. For example: There are parts in the stories here and there where our big bad heroes go places in disguise (just all in black) to sneak in somewhere. They're these huge famous gladiators who go someplace where they are easily recognizable, "in disguise," and then call each other by their real names.. loudly. I mean, yes, bad guys are dumb, but come on really? At least give your characters some nicknames to call each other when they are breaking into their rivals property where they will most definitely run into somebody who would recognize them by name (if they don't by the size and shape of them). Some of the stupidity was poorly explained away, how there were really are no rules, blah blah, but then why even bother trying to disguise themselves?

I'm also kind of sick of the bad guys being so dumb, I read a lot so when I listened to this I was wondering how so many authors fall into the trap of making the villains so stupid and easy to manipulate or predict. If this was the case, there really shouldn't be much conflict in the plot at all.... these villains shouldn't hold as much power as they do to the story. So it gets a little frustrating, this author isn't the only one guilty of doing this but ugh, I think she's capable of better.

But overall, I still enjoyed listening to the story, the scenes were hot and I would still recommend this box set for an escape. This is a whole new world for me and I can easily picture the places they go with the short and efficient description of the settings. It's like comfort food, you kind of know what you're getting, it's a guilty little pleasure that satisfies that itch for a little heat in your entertainment.
