About this listen

If you caught a glimpse of heaven, would you choose to comeback to life?

Investigative journalist Judy Bachrach has collectedaccounts of those who died and then returned to life with lucid, vivid memoriesof what occurred while they were dead, and the conclusions are astonishing.Clinical death - the moment when the heart stops beating and brain stem activityceases - is not necessarily the end of consciousness, as a number of doctors arenow beginning to concede. Hundreds of thousands of fascinating post-deathexperiences have been documented, and for many who have died and returned, lifeis forever changed.

These days, an increasing number of scientific researchersare turning their studies to people who have experienced what the author callsdeath travels - putting stock and credence in the sights, encounters, andexciting experiences reported by those who return from the dead. Throughinterviews with scores of these "death travelers," and with physicians, nurses, and scientists unraveling the mysteries of the afterlife, Bachrach redefinesthe meaning of both life and death. Glimpsing Heaven reveals both the uncertainty and the surprising joys of life after death.

Interesting read

The narrator is easy to listen to. I liked the way this book was written without a bunch of unnecessary information crammed into the middle of the interviews. The author is a good writer in my opinion. With this subject matter, I was amazed that she was able to collect so many different perspectives or I guess it would be situations. If you are interested in the afterlife this is an interesting read.

Enjoyed the specific & detailed subject matter. Reader was very pleasant. Author covered some areas in more detail than other books on this topic.

Too Much Insignificant Details

This book cities have been shortened at least in half by eliminating the insignificant details. I had to keep jumping ahead very often to get to the meat of the story as It was overly drawn out. I just wanted to hear the person’s experiences not what they ate, where they went, discussing they had with others BEFORE their NDE.

Well Rounded

This book was both skeptical and open ended, exploring NDE's (or DE's, as the author poses) from multiple facets: interviewing experiencers & their families/friends, medical practitioners, hospice, scientific researcher, etc. The author clearly has her own journey as she explores her curiousity and personal biases. As someone who is certain we survive death, I especially appreciated the chapters on negative death experiences, and the input from doctors and researchers who think the experience is more likely the physiology of a dying brain & body.
I struggled slightly with the reader's afect/tone, it felt measured and acted. I got used to it, though, and was able to let go of judgement to enjoy the material.
