Publisher's summary

Picking up from where his first memoir left off, Dr Tom is back with more of his gloriously eccentric stories. Still based as a locum in his beloved Scotland, he now takes time out from the surgery for stints as a medical researcher, travelling wherever he is called, from Rio to Jerusalem, Vienna to Singapore.

Part memoir, part travelogue, Going Loco takes us on a dizzying journey around the medical world - from the challenge of a make-shift surgery in the African bush, to the terror of smuggling beagles into Amsterdam on behalf of a global pharmaceutical company. We encounter extraordinary characters on the way - impossible patients, brave souls, and more than a smattering of crazy doctors.

The adventures continue

Lovely continuation of Dr. Smith's journey into the varied world of medicine. His talent, background and friends open doors to less traditional medical roles. It is full of relatable and funny stories for anyone in the medical field. It is very well read as well.

Most rewarding choice of a book

I loved this book as it was entertaining, educational, and quite comical at times. Great read.

A Delight and informative read!

This sequel to Dr. Tom's first book, A Seaside Practice, is just as excellent!
He is an extraordinary storyteller of his interesting and varied medical experiences.
A real joy to listen and read.
I would have love to have him as my GP!

What an interesting life!

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed the continuation of his experiences. There are fewer stories of his practice and more of his life in industry but he writes and reads with good humour and interest. I loved it.

What a life!

This book really blew me away! Some of the information was so shocking, and most of the anecdotes were either heart warming or hilarious! I will buy the rest of his books as well as listening to this one a few more times! His life and journeys chronicled here are truly amazing!

Wonderful!!

I've so enjoyed Dr. Tom's stories, wonderfully read by the man himself. His humble courage in the face of the unpredictable world is marvelously heartening. From tears to belly laughs, this and his first book are well worth a listen. I'm onto the third now.

Great story from “the old country”

My husband and I have travelled in Scotland & Northern Ireland on several occasions. It has been very interesting to listen to this and one other book by this author, and especially when read BY the author! His stories are well written, very interesting and contain enough funny stories to have kept us smiling and chuckling throughout. His description of Rio De Janeiro is exactly as I found it to be when I was there in 2007 to minister to street children - what a horrible state of affairs & existence!!! We both highly recommend books by Dr Tom Smith!!

Second Best

This second memoir of a Scottish doctor dealt more with the travel and business side of his practice. Well written and well performed in his pleasant Scottish brogue, it has moments of humor and interaction with memorable patients. A nice follow-up to the first and best volume called A Seaside Practice.
