Publisher's summary

Life in rural Blanco County, Texas, isn't what most folks would call exciting - and that suits game warden John Marlin just fine. He's happy to spend his days and nights protecting the local wildlife from poachers. But when the tequila-slamming, skirt-chasing treasurer of the local Rotary Club goes missing and his vehicle is found in the river the day after a flood, Marlin finds himself in charge of the search efforts.

At nearly the same time, a nearby house explodes in a shower of drug paraphernalia, and an exotic car turns up stolen from the missing man's barn. Marlin and Sheriff Bobby Garza are soon overwhelmed, trying to figure out how everything connects together. It isn't long before events begin to spiral out of control.

Edgar Award-nominated author Ben Rehder keeps the plot moving and the laughs coming in another spectacularly funny crime novel straight out of the zaniest imagination in Texas.

Guilt Trip

A few different directions go on in this book and it definitely keeps your interest to figure out how they will all end up and maybe if they wrap up all together. I have enjoyed this whole series so far and will be listening to more.

Another Amusing Blanco County Adventure

Man oh man there were a whole lot of different things going on in this one. Red just makes me shake my head (what a dumb good old boy him and Billy Don are!
Martin is trying to decide whether to take a job elsewhere or stay put. So much more happening in this book.

Solid listen

Another strong delivery from Rehder combing a solid mystery with humor against a backdrop of small town life in Texas, all while examining important issues facing modern America.

Stands alone, but better as part of the series.

I received this audiobook for free in exchange for a review.

I love the books but I enyouthese berrer as an actual book.

I always enjoy these books but I've actually read them all already and the narration conflicts with the images in my head. it's not a big problem and they are still a lot of fun.

guilt???

What a winding path of people and places to get to the truth of Vance"s killer! I didn't see it all coming. Most of the people would rather tell a tall tale than the truth??? smh. Greed and jealousy motivated poor actions. Loving this series. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job with voices and expressions.

ho hum... Sorry i bought it.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

The book and narration was very below my interest and quality. I kept falling asleep during it, and it took me several days to get through. The voice inflections were interesting, but the southern accent (Texas) with overkill pronunciation of each word almost impeccable. The book context was boring and hard to follow due to jumping around.

I hope some enjoy this book, but my opinion is if there is a sample button, do the sample listening, don't buy first ... I wasn't aware on many there is a sample button.

What could Ben Rehder have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I wouldn't have bothered writing this. I think the writer has talent, but this did not hold my interest. I will not be listening again.

How could the performance have been better?

I think the Texas twang was a bit overkill. He was very precise with wording, but.....

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Greatly disappointed. Definitely not going to revisit this book.

Any additional comments?

Be prepared.
