GOOD, BUT NOT Great

Some stories were really good, while some I struggled to concentrate to finish. All in all wasn't too bad.

when I first listened to this I didn't think I was going to get into it, but as the stories progressed they got good. there might have been a couple of them I wonder what the authors been smoking, LOL. the narrator did a good job. I have to say these are good stories.

narrator ruins it

He can’t pronounce words correctly, reads with almost NO inflection, and what is up with his accents??? Ruins it utterly

Scary stories & best part is THEY ARE ALL TRUE!

What made the experience of listening to Haunted Legends the most enjoyable?

I LOVE urban legends. These are embellished Urban Legends written down by REALLY talented story tellers - award winning story tellers!

What did you like best about this story?

The brilliant and great writing.

Have you listened to any of Brian Troxell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, just dandy.

Who was the most memorable character of Haunted Legends and why?

The "Black Car". The Black Car drives along lonely roads on Halloween night. The Black Car is full of Nuns, or as you get a closer look, are they nuns, or maybe they are purple witches? …they are driving around the mid-west on Halloween Night in a big BLACK CAR. I grew up in the mid-west, and I heard about THIS one! I think I even saw it once. It's TRUE! And the absolute worst part is the Black Car follows you …and then it get's even worse when they catch up to you, force you off the road, and of course, then there's the unspeakable "FOLDING MAN" the Purple-Alien-Nun-Witches pull out of the trunk… then the story starts to get really scary! AND it's all True! I knew someone's sister's boyfriend who said he and his friends were chased by the Black Car on Halloween!

Any additional comments?

Loved the book. I wish some of the stories should have been a little tighter. A Beginning - a Middle - and an End, not just the "slice of life" stuff. I wish they had all been equally scary and riveting. Some went right over my head, but the ones that "got me" got me REAL good! Oh, "Cracked Pop" in the Pines Barrens, Spring Heal Jack killing as devil or an angel depending on who you ask. I wish the wonderful writing on the "headless horseman" piece had been less slice of life, and more Spook tale! I wish all had a twist ending, or a good "BOO!" at the end, but still, a good collection. Perhaps the NEXT one (please ) will require a good "BOO!" at the end, or near end, of each spook story! Thanks!

disappointed

I got the book because I wanted to be scared out of my mind. I just needed a book to creep me out. This did not. Maybe it was the explanations before and after every story. Maybe another narrator should have been used that would give the stories a bit more life a bit more creepiness. All I can say was it was hard trying to keep focused. I had to rewind a lot because I kept thinking I missed something. There were some stories that no matter how much I listened over and over to them they just didn't make much sense to me. The foxes story was just annoying they just kept repeating the story with subtle changes.

Uninspired performance and poorly written...

Of the twenty some odd stories in this collection, maybe three are worth reading.

Pass.
