Publisher's summary

In the midst of a Christian subculture that idolizes families, an evangelical history of overcelebrating families, and a secular culture that overprograms families, one American family identifies the danger they’re in the midst of and embarks on a radical adventure. Household Gods offers an examination of the culture that spawned family idolatry and the steps we can take to flee this idolatry and escape to the Cross.

Convicting

As a soon to be father, this was convicting of my sins in light of being a dad and husband. What a check to the gut. Ted and Kristin, thank you for being vulnerable.

Shower thought level idea given passing scrutiny

As a Christian, you've probably read that Jesus said to sell all of your things and follow me. Since you probably don't want to do that, your next question is how much can you realistically have and still feel like you're following Christ's teaching? What is ENOUGH? Is my desire for more actually idol worship? Where's the cut-off?

The book hints that enough is probably a lot less than you think but doesn't risk provoking an argument by actually saying it. Suggesting that you might be involved in idol worship seems to be code so that the reader will shame themselves upon reflection.
