We all feel it—the distraction, the loss of focus, the addictive focus on the wrong things for too long. We bump into the zombies on their phones in the street, and sometimes they’re us. We stare in pity at the four people at the table in the restaurant, all on their phones, and then we feel the buzz in our pocket. Something has changed utterly: for most of human history, the boundary between public and private has been clear, at least in theory. Now, as Chris Hayes writes, “With the help of a few tech firms, we basically tore it down in about a decade.”

A vast and largely unseen transformation of how war is fought as profound as the invention of gunpowder or advent of the nuclear age is occurring. Flying cars that can land like helicopters, artificial intelligence-powered drones that can fly into buildings and map their interiors, microsatellites that can see through clouds and monitor rogue missile sites—all these and more are becoming part of America’s DIU-fast-tracked arsenal. Until recently, the Pentagon was known for its uncomfortable relationship with Silicon Valley and for slow-moving processes that acted as a brake on innovation.

In a field known for startling ideas, the Many-Worlds Interpretation (MWI) of quantum mechanics may take the prize. It holds that parallel to our own world are a large number of other universes, almost identical to ours but with small variations. Copies of each of us inhabit a myriad of these worlds. But they are not us exactly; they share our past history, but they are different people who have unique futures. Although these realms are invisible and can’t communicate with each other, prominent physicists are convinced they must exist.

Educational and Thought-Provoking
This book is a great way to learn about the history of AI and how it’s evolved to where we are today. It does a solid job of explaining the basics—like machine learning and robots—while also diving into more advanced topics like quantum AI and super intelligence. It’s definitely educational and helps you get a clearer idea of what AI could mean for the future. Some parts are purely speculative, but it’s interesting to think about the possibilities and kinda mind blowing.

Completely Captivating and Scary
Wow, what an incredible audiobook! The narrator's voice pulls you right into this mind-blowing exploration of artificial intelligence. I was completely captivated from the first chapter. The author breaks down complex tech concepts into digestible chunks that even a non-expert can understand.
I'll be honest—I was a little scared of some of the future outlooks for AI the book presented. The potential scenarios about technology's transformative power were both fascinating and unsettling. Despite my apprehension, every section feels like a thrilling journey through potential AI futures.
The performance is crisp and engaging, making technical details feel like a gripping story. I found myself pausing repeatedly to absorb the profound insights about technology's impact on our world. Whether you're a tech enthusiast or just curious about AI, this audiobook is an absolute must-listen. Prepare to have your mind expanded!

Powerful introduction
As someone with a casual interest in AI, I found this book both enlightening and deeply unsettling. The chapter Will There Be a War? stood out as the most compelling—and worrisome—part of the book. It vividly explores the potential for AI to escalate global conflicts and reshape geopolitics, painting a stark picture of the risks we might face.
If you're curious about the future of AI but not deeply immersed in the tech world, this book is a powerful introduction. It encourages reflection and raises urgent questions about what we should demand from leaders today to steer AI in the right direction.
