About this listen

From the author of Happiness for Beginners comes an unforgettable audiobook about finding joy even in the darkest of circumstances.

Margaret Jacobsen is just about to step into the bright future she’s worked for so hard and so long: a new dream job, a fiancé she adores, and the promise of a picture-perfect life just around the corner. Then, suddenly, on what should have been one of the happiest days of her life, everything she worked for is taken away in a brief, tumultuous moment. In the hospital and forced to face the possibility that nothing will ever be the same again, Maggie must confront the unthinkable. First there is her fiancé, Chip, who wallows in self-pity while simultaneously expecting to be forgiven. Then, there's her sister Kit, who shows up after pulling a three-year vanishing act. Finally, there's Ian, her physical therapist, the one the nurses said was too tough for her. Ian, who won't let her give in to her pity and who sees her like no one has seen her before.

Sometimes the last thing you want is the one thing you need. Sometimes we all need someone to catch us when we fall. And sometimes love can find us in the least likely place we would ever expect.

How to Walk Away is Katherine Center at her very best - a masterpiece of an audiobook that is both hopeful and hilarious, truthful and wise, tender and brave.

Interesting story and Great Narrator

Maggie & Kit are great characters!. Funny and interesting. I thought the subject would be sad, but the story line and writing keeps you positive and involved.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

So good! I was *immediately* enthralled with the book from the very beginning, and it kept me interested the whole time. Loved the characters and the plot development.

And the second story at the end, from the point of view of the EMT/ firefighter that rescued Maggie? Ugh. Brilliant. 👏🏼

A new favorite!

I fell in love with Katherine Center when I read Happiness for Beginners. I wasn’t sure I would ever love another book more than that one, but this one I love just as much! Not only is it an unpredictable, draw-you-in kind of read, the storyline is unlike any other fiction book I’ve read. It’s quietly inspiring, offering really great personal life lessons through another’s journey. More than any other fiction book I’ve read, I really loved the way this book came to a close. No loose ends, no unanswered questions, but also not at all predictable!

I listened to this book on audible and found the narrator to be the best of all of the audible books I’ve heard so far. High fives all around!

Gut wrenching moments mixed with humor

Excellent book, Maggie and sis Kit, life in all its shades, tragic circumstances and Maggie’s struggle to move forward, as she begins to realize her life is changed forever.Beautifully written and narrated by one of the best Therese Plummer, bringing each character to life, as only she can👍❤️

Standard Romcon

The narrator is talented she has a pleasant voice. She inhabited the character well. It felt like a story being told by a familiar friend.

The plot is beat for beat a classic RomCom with with a prodigal sister subplot and a last minute family secret. It was mostly fun.

I'm the wrong audience for this book, I think, because a lot of the characters' decisions are dumb, but necessary for the plot. And it's glaringly obvious that this is the story of people who have a ton of money and leisure time, which is only ever vaguely addressed.

There is a bonus short story included that I really enjoyed.

LOVED THIS BOOK

I guess that I wasn’t expecting much since I didn’t read the description and some of the reviews were mixed, but I just really liked this book. Good narrator, interesting and likeable characters. So refreshing!

Rough start but happy I pushed through!

It took me about a quarter of the book to get into, honestly I believe it was because I had just had some traumatic things happen in my family itself, but I am so very happy I pushed through. As was told to me *spoiler alert* Katherine Center always writes happy endings. Love that!!
