Publisher's summary
Nine of us came here. We look like you. We talk like you. We live among you. But we are not you. We can do things you dream of doing. We have powers you dream of having. We are stronger and faster than anything you have ever seen. We are the superheroes you worship in movies and comic books but we are real.
Our plan was to grow, and train, and become strong, and become one, and fight them. But they found us and started hunting us first. Now all of us are running. Spending our lives in shadows, in places where no one would look, blending in. we have lived among you without you knowing.
But they know.
They caught Number One in Malaysia.
Number Two in England.
And Number Three in Kenya.
They killed them all.
I am Number Four.
I am next.
Also included is a sneak listen to the first chapter of the next book in the series. Enjoy!

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue - Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is - she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

Story
On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

The living dead are more alive than ever! Zombies have become more than an iconic monster for the 21st century: They are now a phenomenon constantly revealing as much about ourselves - and our fascination with death, resurrection, and survival - as our love for the supernatural or post-apocalyptic speculation. Our most imaginative literary minds have been devoured by these incredible creatures and produced exciting, insightful, and unflinching new works of zombie fiction.

Love this series so much!
Just started this series again. It’s been a while since I last read them all and already I am back into it and ready to read them all back to back! This series will always be one of my all time favorites. It has everything you could want in a fantasy book and if you haven’t read it yet then you’re definitely missing out!

The details you wish were portrayed in the movie
I honestly enjoyed this far more than I expected too,
Although the narration can throw you off at first, it grows on you and adds a humorous charm to the book that now after finishing it, I can’t imagine it being told by anyone differently. The narrator puts so much passion and emotion and emphasis to each character that it truly brings the images to life in your head. This book was everything I hoped to learn from after leaving the movie wanting more from I am number four. now I can happily say that I did the right thing by reading the book so that I can continue the series and find out what happened after the events of the movie and this book laid into the details that left me with questions from the movie and I feel like I understand the whole plot wayyy better. 10/10

Great Young Adult Story...WRONG narrator...
This was such a great action packed story but is most definitely geared toward the young adult crowd. If you like books like Harry Potter, The Twilight Series, etc... you will enjoy this.
The narrator was not a good match for the story because he could not do female voices at ALL. This did annoy me at times but the story was good enough that I was able to still enjoy it. I think it was worth the credits/money. I say give it a try!

good story outline
They seem to have started with a good outline for a young adult story series. The actual writing of the story in my opinion is just okay. Worth listening to, but nothing exceptional. I found the narrator to be very irritating in the beginning, but I got used to him after a while. They had some good ideas in the story, but other places are pretty predictable and down right corny. Most books are better than the movie, but I think this will actually make a better movie than this book. The final big battle scene is pretty weak in the book.

GGGRRRRRRRRRRRREAT BOOK!
I could NOT put this one down (or turn off the MP3 player, should I say?)! I am 40 years old (not a teen), but I found it VERY EXCITING and entertaining. The narrator was great at changing his voice (especially into the deep FRENCH sounds.
I LOVED this story, was sad to hear it end, and CANNOT WAIT for the second book to come out!!!!! TAKE A CHANCE ON THIS ONE, you won't be disappointed!

Young young adult, except for the profanity
More fit for junior high than high school, this is a pretty good sale purchase if you don’t think too much about the plot flaws, the predictable cliches, or the comically overdone narration. There’s mild profanity (“b,tch” for instance). My high schooler pronounced this “silly” but my sixth grader said it was not bad, especially the action in the final third. We won’t loose sleep if the rest of the series never goes on sale.

I liked the book, the narrator was annoying
Would you try another book from Pittacus Lore and/or Neil Kaplan?
Yes, but only if Neil Kaplan changes his approach (all the characters spoke in this weird 90's stereotype valley girl voice.) WHHHYYYYYYYYY

Terrific story
Where does I Am Number Four rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
A very captivating story, a nine out of ten. One which I couldn't wait to continue listening to. Often, I barely listen to a novel, because they are usually humdrum. Often I get tired of the profanity used by the authors. This has none of that, or very little.
What did you like best about this story?
The development of the characters. Some others introduce too many characters, so that one loses sight of who is who.
What about Neil Kaplan’s performance did you like?
Good changes in voices. An excellent reader.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Not everyone who lives among us is a monster.
