Publisher's summary

For one couple, getting what they want comes at a devastating price in this gripping debut thriller.

Banking heiress Trish and her husband, James, seem to have it all, from a lavish lifestyle to a historic mansion in the nation’s capital. The only thing that’s missing to make their family complete is a baby, so when Trish holds Anne Elise in her arms for the first time, it’s no surprise that she falls deeply in love. There’s just one problem: Trish isn’t the mother.

The baby belongs to Laurel, James’s young mistress. And more than that, James and Laurel want to start a new life together - despite an ironclad prenup standing in their way. When Trish becomes dangerously obsessed with making Laurel’s baby her own, the lovers’ plan to break James’s marriage quickly goes awry. How far is each of them willing to go for happiness?

This book was okay

There was not a single likeable character in this book. And, there were so many different happenings that it just felt contrived. Despite that, i did listen to the end which just leftvme shaking my head.

Glad it was free....

I don't know...I just finished this in audible version and I'm just left with no conclusion. I don't understand the full point of the story. I was intrigued early on because the 3 main characters were all presented to the reader as one which you wouldn't root for to come out on top. All flawed. All twisted in some way. But then the book falls flat. Like the author built up to the main plot then rushed to finish the book. No twist. No reveal at the end. No satisfaction. No plot lines brought together to either leave you hanging or leave you stunned at the last sentence. It just ends. Glad it was free.
And the narrator for Laural was NOT depicting a young woman from Virginia nor Maryland.

Great story

I really enjoyed this story, however, I was not a fan of the narration of Laurel. She had a southern accent at times for no discernible reason that would then suddenly sound ... british? It was super distracting. Great story if you can get past the narration.

Very interesting with some surprises.

The narration was great. The storyline let's you understand what people go through when they can't conceive. Especially the emotional aspect.

It was OK

The storyline itself was predictable and flat. I had a bigger issue with the voice actors. The one voicing Laurel specifically had a strange accent; something like someone with a British event trying to sound southern. It ruined this book for me.

Twisted

All she ever wanted was a baby. You kind of feel bad for Trish. James was the crowd in this story and was happy to see what came to him. And finally Laura.... the dumb mistress who believes everything that is told to her. I wish things would have turned different for Trish, who I believe was the victim in this story.
