Publisher's summary

Alex McKnight is in love. Even though he met Natalie Reynaud, an officer from the Ontario Provincial Police, under difficult circumstances, they share a common bond of solitude, as well as the same nightmare - they're both cops who buried their partners. It's Alex's first real relationship in years, which in some ways is terrifying. But Natalie has her own fears to deal with - and her own secrets.

They brave a violent snowstorm to spend the night together in a historic hotel in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. There, they meet a mysterious old man who seems to know a lot about Natalie - and about her family. But they won't be getting any answers from him - he'll be found frozen to death in a snowbank the very next morning. From this single incident, an old blood feud will be reignited, one going back decades to an event buried in her family's past - an event that even now can still drive men to kill each other.

As much as Natalie doesn't want Alex to become entangled in this web of lies and hatred, there's no way he can let her face this danger alone. This is a man who has gotten beaten up, shot at, and even dragged behind a snowmobile, all because he's a sucker for a friend in need.

How much further will he go for love?

Likeable characters

The books I have listened to by Steve Hamilton have all kept me entertained and wanting to hear more. Not all authors translate so well to audio and no doubt the narrator seals the deal with his skillful vocal talent.

Ice run a bit icy

This book is not as good as the prior five Alex McKnight mysteries that I’ve had the privilege of reading. I’m about to start the next one in the series and hopefully it will be better.

Ridiculous narration ruins the story!

What did you like about this audiobook?

I like the McKnight series because the plots are fairly interesting and the characters are well developed.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

The narration was atrocious! His feigned upper peninsula accent was terrible, but far worse was the insulting way he represented the Indians in the story! He must have listened the the Lone Ranger and Tonto one too many times, because he represented the Indians as simpletons - just terrible!

my least favorite

The story is ok, but this narrator sucks! he makes Vinny sound like he's mentally challenged, he can not do a scotish accent so he makes Jackie sound like a thug. it's horrible! then poor Alex, the first girlfriend he has turns out to be a freaking psychotic mess!! this is my absolute least favorite and I am struggling to finish it. if this narrator narrates any other books, I won't buy them.

Another action packed story

Well it is 95 in baltimore and I am shivering in the upper peninsula where it snows and snows. Interested in whether love interest will continue

Good

Didn't like the narrator. Other books were better. I like how Alex always manages to get beat up and in trouble. Rather comical. I will go on to the next one though because I love the characters.

True Blue, Michigan.

Great story. Michigan and Canadian lingo/dialect spot on! Fun read. Will look for more.
