STORY
Jasmine is in her early 20s when her abusive, neglectful parents disappear, leaving her to take care of her young autistic sister. While working two jobs, she meets Dax, a sexy Singer and music therapist.

IN SPADES wasn’t an extraordinarily special story, but it wasn’t terrible either. It’s not often that I can hear a typo while listening to an audiobook, but I heard at least one when the main character said REVERE instead of REVERIE. Also, the main character would occasionally go on random tangents, talking about non-important things that had absolutely no bearing on the storylinelike morning breath or the fact that her 5-year-old sister loves pizza (don’t they all?). Aside from this unnecessary filler and what some would consider insta-love, overall, IN SPADES is a fun, sweet, sexy story. However, it does end with a cliffhanger, and I didn’t enjoy this book enough to want to continue reading on in the series…

PERFORMANCE
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Ashlyn Selleck. Although I would have preferred that a male narrator spoke for the male characters, Selleck did a decent job. My main complaints were that she mispronounced the word OGLE, and she pronounced the female main character’s name two different ways, sometimes pronouncing it AVA other times pronouncing AV like you pronounce AVENUE. Like the book, she wasn’t an extraordinarily fantastic barrator, but she definitely wasn’t bad!

Speed reader?

I'm going to buy the book and read this one myself. The narrator doesn't pause during her read. It's like a huge run on sentence.
