About this listen

Someone wants Police Chief Emilio Mendoza dead. And if his unknown assailant doesn't kill him, pining for Sheriff Abraham Beecham just might.

Abe and Lio's thirty-year journey has taken them from heated rivals to best friends with countless labels and pit stops along the way. Romance is the only avenue left unexplored but not from lack of love or desire.

Abe pushes people away before they can get too close, and Lio doesn't engage in situations he can't control. They've reached an impasse, and neither are willing to risk their friendship until fate intervenes, forcing them to reassess their priorities.

But when an unhinged enemy targets Lio, will their gamble be too little too late, or will their love truly conquer all?

Just Say When is a stand-alone romantic suspense novel within the author's Savannah universe.

Contains mature themes.

enjoyed it

📖 Story comment: likealble MC's, pace was a little inconsistent, uncomplicated plot.
Fan's of Aimee Nicole Walker's "Savannah universe" will enjoy seeing Police Chief Mendoza get his HEA. This is what I call an easy listen, there's not alot going on so its easy to listen to while doing something else without losing any of the story.

The Publishers summary is a little deceiving, I was expecting more action or suspense in the plot, but it all takes a bit of a backseat to the relationship until the very end. I'm not complaining as I did enjoy the story, but this book is just more of an easy journey of two middle aged men finally taking the next steps on a decades long friendship than the cat and mouse game of "Someone wanting Police Chief Mendoza dead" and "romantic suspense" implied.

🎧 Narrator comment: Personally I love Tristan James as a narrator, I go through phases where he's just what I need to soothe the jagged edges of my psyche. I find his tones soothing, he has good timing and inflections and he brings these characters to life. This particular performance doesn't have a huge difference between Lio and Abe's voices - it relies more on the character's personality than vocal sound to differentiate them, that being said, I had no real issue discerning which character was speaking, I enjoyed the performance and look forward to more from this author/narrator duo in the future.

A Love Years in the Making!

There could be no better narrator for Lio and Abe! Tristan voiced them just as I heard them when I read their story. Abe and Lio have a very realistic story. It spans over decades as they had different forms of friendship over time. I loved when they would retell their stories from when they were first forced to interact with each other, and they were kind of enemies! Lio jumping Abe during baseball was epic! I loved that they knew each other so well that it was easy for them to trust each in other and feel in their hearts that now was finally their time. I will add that this story can be listened to as a standalone, but I highly recommend listening to the Zero Hour series and all the spins offs as they enhance this romance! And they are Fantastic!

Another great read by Aimee Nicole Walker

I loved this story and the entire Savannah series. I was sad to see the series conclude. All the characters were 3 dimensional and Aimee weaves them and their intertwined stories expertly. I highly recommend all the Savannah stories.

Loved this book!

Even though this was stand alone I am happy that a lot of the side characters are getting their stories told. Leo and Abe needed to have their story told. It was great. The drama and the love these two have since a young age was beautiful.

Not what I expected

The story appeared to be rushed. I do not like the narrator. His voice sounded as if he was just reading the story - his voice only changed if the character was a female or a teenager. Monotone. Sorry, can’t recommend.

Had Potential

Aimee Nicole Walker is kind of hit or miss with me. I love some of her books, but others I am meh about. This is one of the "meh" books.

It was both oddly slow and then rushed. There was plot, but it felt like the plot was in the background, like it wasn't that big of a deal? It felt like Leo and Abe were the main focus, but in a flirty-sexy kind of focus. I like them, but their story just didn't hit home with me. I think my main problem was the lack of focus on the mystery of who was going after Leo. It felt lackluster? Also, when Leo got shot at, and no one knows who did it, why why why would they let Alex go to Leo's house? Alone? That felt off to me too.

As for the narrator, I like Tristan James. I had to get used to him the first few times I listened to him, but I have come to like how he narrates. He can be monotone sometimes, but he's one of my top narrators that I frequently check for new material. Give him a chance and see if you can like him like I did.

Overall, the story was meh and the narrator was great.
