About this listen

From the author of The Ingredients of Us comes a moving story about true love and heartbreak, mistakes and redemption, forgiveness and second chances.

Five years ago, marine biologist Abby Fisher made a mistake that cost her everything. Rather than face the consequences, she fled home to start anew--and built the career she’d always dreamed of. But when her research program runs out of funding, she’s adrift once again and decides to return to the safe harbor of her family and friends.

Except nothing at home is how she remembered.

Her friendships are strained, her normally affectionate parents seem distant, and her once-great love story is now just a painful memory. What’s worse, she keeps running into the people she hurt years ago--and they aren’t ready to forgive her.

Abby is determined to atone for her mistakes, but she can’t seem to move beyond her guilt for a chance of future happiness. Can Abby learn to sail through the storm, or will she remain lost at sea?

Poignant and heartfelt, Keep Me Afloat asks the question: How can you expect forgiveness from others if you can’t even forgive yourself?

Good book but

I liked the book but the editing could have been better. There is a part when that should be years and not days and it makes things confusing.

Rudderless vessel

Abby was sort of clueless about all except her career and a couple of her friends. She has trouble getting her bearings. She marries a down to earth man who adores her, but she sacrifices her career field to keep a local job to bring in money and starts to hate her life. Counseling here would have been a good thing. She does a fair amount of damage to those around her and leaves town for a research project in CA, but the project loses funding and she returns home, forced to face the mess her life has become. Running away did not seem to help, but over time, she must deal with people. She finds a job she loves and a decent place to live. She evolves.

I liked this book even though the MC was frustrating.

Pleasant book; unpleasant narration

The narration is very odd. A bit of interesting info about whales, salmon and ocean ecology in the PNW.

Guess this is real life.

I found the story’s main characters making poor choices at times, which I found disturbing. It was written very well making her descriptions vivid. I would say I both liked and disliked the story.

Enjoyable

I enjoyed the book, but not the performance. I ended up getting the Kindle edition and read most of the book. Good environmental topic without being preachy included in the plot, but most of the book was centered on the main character coming to grips with her past. Would highly recommend the Non audio version of the book.

Don’t waste your time

The story line was lacking and the writing wasn’t very good. The narrator was terrible. She was over dramatic and didn’t help the weak plot.
