Publisher's summary

Hell isn't the only things that's hot!

Delaney Markham has a special talent. Not only does she see dead people, she hears them. By the way, communicating with tormented spirits all day, every day really puts a kink in your love life. With no romantic entanglements to speak of, Delaney is free to use her gifts by holding seances to pay the bills. Except things go off the rails when she meets one unbelievably infuriating ghost, and as her luck would have it, he seems determined to hang around, like all the time!

Clyde Atwell, sinfully hot in a college professor sort of way, is no predictable ghost. Truth be told, he's a newbie demon and determined to ace his first assignment, which is to take Delaney back to Hell. Using every trick in the demon playbook, Clyde gets Delaney to agree to a date. His plan is to trick her into joining him on a trip to Hell.

Yeah. Right. Like that's going to happen on the first date!

Contains mature themes.

Original Plot

The story is a fresh idea. However it's very dated and a little unrelatable in 2023. Hence the reason for the average overall rating . I was tired of all of the slang. I liked the story and plot. may read the second installment.

Horribly boring narrator

I typically love Dakota Cassidy but this narrator makes me not want to finish the book. Dakota Cassidy, you are a talented writer. You should have me narrate your books...this series anyway!!

I’m sad it’s over…

I didn’t want this book to end! But it did end wonderfully. I love Dakota Cassidy’s books. She has a way of pulling a person into the world she’s created and not letting go. I felt all the feelings in this book! I laughed and cried and got all happy and squishy at the end.
I really liked the narrator and I have pretty high expectations with narrators. I don’t think I’ve heard Charlotte North narrate before but I will definitely look for more books narrated by her.

Enjoyable

Keep me interested and not really guessing the next Sean’s but relaxing into the book. Narrator was very good with the story line not overselling it.

Meh

I tried this book because I enjoyed the Slapped series. Unfortunately, this book is not that. The writing is rough & juvenile. It feels like a teens 1st attempt at writing. For some reason it is full of profanity that does nothing to enhance the story or the character. I can u derstand if she was using profanity to show the type of character who is tough or street or lowclass but she is not. To confuse this the author oddly throws in cutsie swearing. So, After a string of sh*ts, G*damns and Jesus Christs, casually a 'Sweet Jesus, Mary and all the Saints' or some other attempt at covering up the foulmouthery with Shingle or Cracker added to the end. 🙄 The FMC is not consistent and poorly developed. The MMC could shine but the interactions between these two falls flat. ... boring...
The depiction of Hell and how this Demon tricked an all powerful Lucifer is also inconsistent and contradictory.
Then it just goes on and on. It is so borubg! Was there a word count she was trying to hit? Its awful! I wish the author had used a better editor or saw this as a draft not ready for publication because there are good bones to the plot. I'm glad it was "free" because I would hate to have to demand a refund...too much work 😉. The upside, the narrator was fantastic and probably earned one of the two stars I gave this review.
