Publisher's summary

"The fare is ten cents, miss."

Mae Malveaux, an attorney with Minneapolis Child Protective Services, is burnt-out, tired, and frustrated. Passing on an invite from Jill, her flirtatious coworker, Mae just wants a quiet night in. Leaving the office late, she's surprised to find the Heritage Line streetcars up and running and hops aboard, eager for a quick trip home.

But this is no ordinary streetcar. Death is one of its riders, and Mae is thrust into Annwn, a realm of magic and danger.

"Your transfer, miss. You'll need that."

Mae's life is turned upside down as human and fae worlds collide. Her budding relationship with Jill takes a perilous turn when they are hunted by mythical beasts, and Mae is drawn into a deadly power struggle. With Jill at her side, Mae must straddle both worlds and fight a war she barely comprehends, for not only does the fate of Annwn rest in her hands, but the lives of both a human and fae child....

Enjoyable fantasy

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The narrator was excellent. The story was a wonderful romance and fantasy. I loved the streetcar. It was a nice surprise for me to find lesbian protaganists in this story, as audiobooks in that genre are rare.I think that Michael Merriam told the story with a good steady pace.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jill, I liked her style!

Lukewarm story, Fine narration

- winding, weirdly paced plot
- stop-go-out-of-the-left-field character development
- fine narration

This book had the simplicity of a children's novel. Many occurrences were never explained nor expounded upon. Character interactions were bland and predictable. Weird events occurred, but I couldn't appreciate them, because everything else felt so . . . stale.

The premise was tantalizing, the follow through was lackluster. I wanted so much more.

Ms. Plummer delivered fine narration. At times I appreciated her delivery, and at others I found it annoying. In some cases, it was simply me reacting oddly to the slight southern drawl.

I may pick up a sample of the book from amazon, and see if it was the combination of writing and narration that made the experience so bland.

Want more

This was a wonderful book with very detailed characters. The suspense was just right. I recommend this book. ;-)

^\\~\\^

Starts out at a good pace and keeps it going rather well. It does slow a bit as it nears the middle, picking up pace again at the end, (practically becoming a fast passed jog) but none the less a good read.
I loved this story, especially the character Fae. Who I would love to see get her own story years later, and watch as she goes on adventures. But putting that to the side, what I really want to mention is the very loving and relaxed relationship that Jill and Mae have throughout the book. It wasn't just lust or instant attraction that was there, but a bond that grew over time into what I like to think of as the purest form of love.
All in all, good book, good story, and be prepared for a little bit of a history lesson in Welch mythology.

An overall good book.

I've been looking for a good lesbian story with magic. And boy did this deliver.

The narrator was great. Never wavered. Each character had its own voice.

I'm ace so I'm not into sex scenes. I just like stories with queer people, being queer, doing things, and being gay. This story hit all my boxes. Ima haffa check out other stuff by this author.

10/10 I would highly recommend.

Lovely magic story set in the real world and the fae

Our heroes have jobs, bosses, irksome coworkers, rich and powerful enemies, bus passes, and pajamas. They sometimes take light rail, sometimes historic trolleys, and sometimes scuff their knees. They are not all powerful, and sometimes their breakfast is less than ideal, like ours. But they still have family obligations, and family problems, and they still have to go to work in the morning. I think this would make a lovely, uncomfortable movie.

Merriam is a writer who knows the Cities well, and isn’t afraid to tell you, early on. Don’t let that bother or distract you, his characters have heart, vulnerability, flaws, and bravery.

The voice actor delivers a solid, gifted performance of Merriam’s work.

Neat Story, Great Narrater

Based upon the narrater I used a credit for this book. I always listen to the full sample though I knew I liked Therese Plummer from The Bollod of Eden series.

The story is interesting, mysterious crafty and fun. Some parts, if you dislike horror movies (not the bloody pointless one just anything that gives you a fright) you may not enjoy it. I, however, enjoy the stuff thast makes you jump. It's fey based.

It's worth a credit. I enjoyed it and would love to see the story continue.

Entertaining Read/Listen

I liked this book, it was an interesting and entertaining story and the narration was good. I only wish there was more world building before we’re thrust into this fast moving story. I didn’t connect with the characters and storyline much for that reason. Other than that it was an enjoyable listen!

Ding Ding

I personally think that a persons sex should not dictate what they are capable of achieving, but I must admit I was surprised this was written by a man .I loved this story at first I was all most put of by it's pace It was like listing to a child trying to tell a joke ,but once it settled down and got comfortable with it's self it flowed nicely .I enjoyed the two heroins of the piece a great deal ,I also enjoyed the fact that there relationship was not the focus of the tale ,Love ,mystery far of lands and sword fighting who could ask for anything more.
