Publisher's summary

In broad desert daylight, a mysterious platoon of soldiers evacuates the entire population of Sunrise Valley, Nevada. Minutes later, a huge bomb detonates a hundred feet above the ground and lays waste to homes, cars, and playgrounds: a town annihilated in an instant.

Alex Cross is on vacation in San Francisco with his girlfriend, Jamilla Hughes, when he gets the call. The Russian supercriminal known as the Wolf claims responsibility for the blast.

Major cities around the globe are threatened with total destruction. The Wolf has proven he can do it; the only question is, can anyone stop him in time? Surveillance film of the blast reveals the presence of another of Alex Cross' most dangerous enemies, the ruthless assassin known as the Weasel.

World leaders have just four days to prevent an unimaginable cataclysm. Joining forces with Scotland Yard and Interpol, Alex fights his way through a torrent of false leads, impersonators, and foreign agents before he gets close to the heart of the crimes. Racing down the hairpin turns of the Riviera in the most unforgettable finale James Patterson has ever written, Alex Cross confronts the truth of the Wolf's identity, a revelation that even Cross himself may be unable to survive.

Great Read

The performance in this book was great! The reader went all out with sound effects and did great voices! Made it like watching a movie! Great job!

Good story despite chapter changes

We really liked the story on our road trip. We are enjoying the Alex Cross series. The odd chapter transitions and sound effects were an unnecessary distraction which is why I gave four stars for performance.

A sheep in Wolf's clothing.

I have listened to other Alex Cross books, and this one is a bit of a stretch. In this book, there are revelations made by the police Feds, CIA, etc.), that suddenly add characters without explaining where information came from. There are characters added right at the end of the story. It was hard to keep the interest in what could have been a strong plot line.
While the readers did a generally good job, there were very annoying sound effects with every chapter. All in all, not one of the better Cross efforts.

Exciting and predictable

Well read which helped a lot. Patterson is running out of steam. Time to get a new hero or something. Not up to his previous thrillers.

London Bridges

The Wolf at the door, again. The spinning of a tale. The spinning of the listener. So well done. Thoroughly engrossing. Many surprises. Very enjoyable.

Great but not the best.

This story is set as a follow up to the Big. Bad Wolf but the connection takes half ghe book to get to. Main character Alex Cross is more of a side note struggling with life/work balance and several at risk relationships. Suggest an intro that takes us from the end of the last book to present day book.

Some weird audio with footsteps between chapters.

If it’s any consolation, I finished this in a single night.

The music

Please stop with the music. It takes and distracts from the actual story. The narrator and plot line speak for themselves

London Bridges gets woofed down

I'm an avid James Patterson reader and I loved the book. I couldn't wait until the next chapter to "hear" what was going to happen next. It had my attention the entire time and the Wolf is a real , badboy , that kept me riveted to his exploits and the absolute ineptitiude of the FBI and police. Alex Cross is a great character to revolve a story about and his family .
The sounds made the book more interesting than other books that are read like a funeral dirge. Don't even listen to the negative comments because if you like this series and characters , you will like this book.

Anti-climatic ending for the Wolf....

...because endings to other characters within in this book and "The Big Bad Wolf" were much more exciting. Come on! All of this excitement surrounding the guy and an elaborate takedown for the dude that got his face changed, and then it was very short and unexciting for the true wolf to go down. Same with the Weasel. Thought both of their endings could have been a little more dramatic.
