Publisher's summary

It's October in South Cove, California, and the locals in the quaint resort seem to be happily pairing off in the lull before the holidays. Everyone, that is, except for Jill Gardner's elderly aunt, who just dumped her besotted fiance - and she won't say why.

When Jill hosts a talk at Coffee, Books, and More on the topic of elder abuse, all that's really on her mind is lunch. But the topic hits close to home when she discovers Aunt Jackie has been getting mysterious calls. Jill's certain the caller is a con artist, of course, but her feisty aunt claims to understand this, though she's still shaken-and Harrold's still heartbroken. Who's behind the scam and why was her aunt targeted? When a volunteer from the Senior Project is found murdered, Jill's detective boyfriend is on the case - and it soon becomes clear no one is safe when a caller from beyond becomes a killer in their midst.

All the Warm and Fuzzies Plus Mystery

This book was my calm oasis during a challenging time. It may seem strange to say a murder mystery was calming but the community this Author has created felt so comfortable and special. I truly enjoyed the book and the dog, Emma, was one of my favorite characters. Gotta love a place where a dog is a true member of the family!

Very Enjoyable Series

This is a series I happened upon by chance and now look for. I like the characters—individual but not too over the top—and the plot was sufficiently interesting.

Cute Story Nice People

I see this is the tenth book in a series. Not sure if the people in this town Especially the leading star Never drinks water ..live on sweets.. soda pop and coffee. Im a 70 year old woman and know a diet like that will ruin your health no matter how much exercise you get. To much emphasis on Food and Drink!! The Only time water to drink was mentioned was at the end when Harold was building the new porch. Ill go and read. the first book. Im hopeful this is the only Eating and drinking disorder book she wrote!!!

Memories and Murder is an interesting book with an intriguing plot. Lynn Cahoon did a good job of tackling elder abuse. While the mystery is very interesting, I got annoyed with Jackie and Meg a few times. Meg constantly tells Jackie not hide things, then she does the same thing. Despite this annoying aspect of the story, I enjoyed the book and look forward to the next book.

Never disappointed

I enjoyed this book completely. I have never been disappointed with Lynn cahoon’s books. They have a great sense of humor but not goofy.

Murder and intrigue in a small town

Jill Gardner hosts a talk on elder abuse at her Coffee, Books, & More shop, but doesn't think it has any personal bearing until she learns her aging Aunt Jackie has been getting some very strange calls. They're from a man claiming to be her deceased husband, Ted. This is very concerning, and Jill asks her boyfriend, local Police Chief Greg King, for help tracking down the predator.

Unfortunately, a more urgent crime takes his attention. A man has been murdered. He's a volunteer at The Senior Project, and boyfriend of the elder counselor, Paula, who gave the elder abuse talk at Jill's shop.

We are soon seeing both the neighborly solidarity of a small town, and the prickly conflicts of a small town. Quiet, gentle, even timid Paula soon seems to be the only person with a motive to kill her boyfriend. He seems to have been living entirely off her income, while promising big paychecks coming soon from his freelance computer maintenance and repair business. She was expecting them to marry soon; coworkers at The Senior Project say he was about to break up with her. Yet Jill and other friends are certain she's just not capable of it.

Meanwhile, town elections are coming up, and the mayor thinks Greg is going to run against him. This leads to a lot of conflict, and some nasty pressure on Jill from the mayor's campaign manager.

There's also the question of who has been making those calls to Aunt Jackie, and while it's reduced to a minor concern for Greg by the need to solve the murder

Along the way, we get to know Jill, Greg, and other locals. Jackie was engaged to Harrold until she started getting those calls that might be from her late husband, and he's not giving up on her. Sadie is the source of some of the best baked goods in Jill's shop. Deek is a "professional student" (his own words) who works part-time as a barista in Jill's shop, and is starting to come up with some creative ideas that are drawing in new business. And Jill's dog, Emma, is reliable and devoted.

It's an enjoyable story in an enjoyable setting. Recommended.

I received this audiobook as a gift, and am reviewing it voluntarily.

ANOTHER WINNER

JACKIE'S STORY AND SO MUCH MORE. THINGS ARE HAPPENING IN SOUTH COVE, AND NOT ALL OF THEM ARE GOOD. BROKEN ENGAGEMENTS, BROKEN HEARTS, BROKEN TRUST? MAYBE, BUT DEFINITELY MURDER. GREAT CHARACTERS. GREAT STORY. GREAT NARRATOR.

Another fine tale

During this pandemic i have listened to all of these again and loved every minute! I enjoy all of the recurring characters, and the mysteries are great to add plot twists while I revisit this quirky town. Highly recommend for a cozy mystery.
