Publisher's summary

What are you hungry for, really?

You may have been drawn to the idea of mindful eating as an antidote to the empty promises of the diet industry, or you may have felt that it's time to pursue a more purposeful, more compassionate way of eating.

Whatever your reasons and whatever your current relationship to food and your body is, this book can help you reconsider your eating habits and whether they are truly serving your highest good.

Through an exploration of the real reasons we overeat, our thoughts and feelings around food, and coming into closer contact with our own true appetites, this book aims to help you craft an open and accepting attitude toward food.

Mindful eating is an attitude toward food (and much more) that encourages awareness, deliberate action, and an open acceptance of the present moment as it unfolds around us.

In this book, we'll look at how the conventional dieting mindset is actually damaging and counterproductive, and how mindful eating can be a refreshing break away from all the expectations that you have about yourself and food that are not serving you.

The ultimate goal is to become exquisitely tuned in to your own appetites, desires, and passions, and to tune out the noise and clutter from the outside world that muffle your innate intuition about what is good for you and what isn't.

When we understand our true hunger, when we realize the psychological, emotional, behavioral, physical, and even spiritual causes behind our overeating, only then can we can start to take realistic steps to remedy it.

very disappointed somewhat!!

I am very disappointed! I purchased this book and listened to the whole thing, non stop, which took about two and a half something hours; I was furious to see that the 30 plus pounds I gained over the last two years did not disappear!!!! ......just kidding! This was a great insightful book!

Everything by this author is worth the time. I plan to read everything available. The minimalist budget is a good one too.

Just what I was looking for!!!

I’ve always felt like there was an inner voice subtly speaking to me about many things. This book has prompted me to become more aware of this “internal compass” so that it can take its place up front rather than remaining in the background up under a whole lot of emotions, habits, false beliefs, etc. I am excited to start my journey towards “being present and in the moment as I make choices about my life INCLUDING THE FOOD I CHOOSE TO TAKE IN!!! Thank you so much Simeon Lindstrom for writing this book!

Great short summary

This is a very thoughtful and casual presentation of mindful eating. I very much enjoyed listening to this audiobook and looking forward to trying out the suggestions. I wish there were more advice about what to do when your environment and time constraints don’t allow to be mindful.

Vegetarian/Vegan

Great message, until the section on becoming. Vegetarian. I disagree that women may become vegetarian because eating meat is seen as masculine. I wish you would have gotten into the mindfulness of giving up eating animals that are tortured and murdered to feed our already unhealthy selves. There is a beauty and compassion in giving up animal products. I would love to hear that subject explored a little further....from a mindful headspace. With no disrespect intended, you must eat meat...there was almost no real thought behind what you said, sounded almost juvenile.

Great book!!!

Really great book! I enjoyed listening to this book and it gave me some really great insight on how to be mindful. I am definitely going to practice taking my time while eating to understand the emotions behind it because that is an area that I struggle with. I like the positivity that this book brought also. I also enjoyed that it was a short listen and not drugged out. Thanks for sharing this knowledge!!!!

A Nice and Short Introduction

This short book taught me a major lesson: live in the moment. I'm learning how to eat intuitively and this book was a great intro. The simple act of taking time prior to, during, and after a meal to assess my feelings about the meal and my body's reaction, may be the key in helping me change my lifestyle.
