Publisher's summary
Dirty Harry meets Twilight. Number 3 in the break-out series and a follow-up to Monster Hunter International and Monster Hunter Vendetta.
Earl Harbinger may be the leader of Monster Hunter International, but he's also got a secret. Nearly a century ago, Earl was cursed to be a werewolf. When Earl receives word that one of his oldest foes, a legendarily vicious werewolf that worked for the KGB, has mysteriously appeared in the remote woods of Michigan, he decides to take care of some unfinished business. But another force is working to bring about the creation of a whole new species of werewolf. When darkness falls, the final hunt begins, and the only thing standing in their way is a handful of locals, a lot of firepower, and Earl Harbinger's stubborn refusal to roll over and play dead.

Robert "Bubba" Brabham never wanted to hunt monsters. He mostly wanted to drink beer, hunt deer, and chase women, like every other giant redneck in the world. But life interfered, and Bubba found himself holster-deep in the family business: monster hunting. Now he's the Southeastern Regional Hunter for the Holy Roman Catholic Church...Bubba has to save the world from the things that go bump in the night! Just as soon as he's done with his beer. Once, Jackson Rook was a war hero. Raised from boyhood to pilot an exosuit mech, he’d fought gallantly for the rebellion against the Collectivists. But that was a long time ago, on a world very far away. Now, Jackson Rook is a criminal, a smuggler on board the Multipurpose Supply Vehicle Tar Heel. His latest mission: steal a top-of-the-line mech called the Citadel and deliver it to the far-flung planet Swindle, a world so hostile even the air will kill you. Story
When marine private Oliver Chadwick Gardenier is killed in the marine barrack bombing in Beirut, somebody who might be Saint Peter gives him a choice: Go to heaven, which, while nice, might be a little boring, or return to earth. The Boss has a mission for him, and he's to look for a sign. He's a marine: He'll choose the mission. Unfortunately, the sign he's to look for is "57". Which, given the food services contract in Bethesda Hospital, creates some difficulty. Eventually it appears that God's will is for Chad to join a group called Monster Hunters International.

A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Loved it
I didn’t give it 5 starts because it really wasn’t an original - original story. It was pretty stereotypical of the monster genre. But it was very well written and I liked the characters. Especially the Russian, the narrator out a Christopher Walken spin on the voice. That was great.

my Favorite of the entire series
This was just flat-out good. The narration alone was stunning. at one point there were at least 7 different character speaking and there were 7 distinct voices, complete with different accents on a few. it was incredible to hear.
I loved the story. Earl is just a great character. He honestly is. The way the story unfolded and more characters were added in, thatvactuallybadded to the story. The Alpha was a great Big bad. The one two punch of him creating not only werewolves but then the Vulkodlak.
The ending was satisfying as well.

Earl POV
getting in the head of earl should be enough on its own :)
but it's also a grand story, might even be better than the first one

A fun standalone adventure for Harbinger, King of the Werewolves
I enjoyed getting to spend a whole book with Earl Harbinger and finding out more of his backstory. The performance was very good but I did often find myself laughing at the voice characterization of Nikolai the Russian Werewolf as he sounded a great deal like Christopher Walken. WOW! CRAZY! LOL. I am looking forward to book four.

Unexpectedly Enjoyable
I strongly recommend this book. I really enjoyed the first two in this series, but this one really caught me by surprise. Once I realized where this book was headed, it had two strikes against it. It didn't involve the Monster Hunter International team, and it was a werewolf story. Earl was not one of my favorite characters, and I have no interest in werewolf stories.
But it turned out to be such an great story, expertly told, I couldn't stop listening. I even found myself cheering out loud near the end.
The narrator is a good choice and has done a good job with this series. I don't know if he was intentionally doing a "Christopher Walken" voice for Nikolai, but that voice cracked me up.
