Publisher's summary

A mysterious outbreak has spread quickly, ravaging the globe. The illness is debilitating and deadly. Those who suffer from the virus succumb to a horrible death. Unfortunately, it doesn't end there. The infection transforms them into an unstoppable force of mindless killing machines.

At the onset of the epidemic, Nila Carter and her family retreated to her father's cabin in search of safety and seclusion from all that transpired around them. With supplies, fresh water and fertile ground, they were joined by a handful of strangers and positioned themselves for long-term survival.

Despite the losses that each of them suffered, they resolve to stay put and emotionally move forward no matter how long it takes. However, their plan to homestead at the cabin is cut short when they soon realize the world isn't quite as dead as they believed. The infected aren't the only thing to fear.

better than expected

Funny enough, when submitted a review for the first book I was not aware of a second. I was thrilled to see there was a 2nd.
I live how it took immediately off from ending of the first book. Lots more action and unexpected sadness. questions were answered and decisions for a better future.
I already have book 3 download and ready to listen. My only complaint is the last 2 books are only 5 hours long. For the cost it should be longer .

Weird narrator

The story and writing are pretty good, minus the four year old daughter who speaks like she’s a teenager. The narrator is horrible. She has a very unnatural way of speaking. It’s choppy like she pauses weirdly between words and takes away from the story because it is distracting.

Second in series it’s ok

This is continuing story and it was not as good as the first book IMO. It seemed a little choppy at times and the ending was abrupt.

Better Than the First Book

My Dead World 2 picks right up where MDW1 ends. Nila reaps the rewards of her naïveté and this time it costs the lives of two women who had been great assets to the group. The level of trust she’d shown by talking candidly with strangers about her idyllic situation led to her losing her safe haven, getting her best friend shot and nearly killed when those same strangers infiltrated her group and led a devastating attack that sent her group out into the unknown.
Leaving a place on your own terms is one thing but being ousted is quite another thing! The fact that she’d risked and nearly lost everything and everyone she loved made her lust for revenge. Together with one of the other survivors she made a daring return and wiped out the interlopers and took her home back.
Still, members of the group wanted to head off to Canada, believing it to be a safe haven free of the disease. The party split with some staying behind to hold down the fort and the rest making the trip to the border. What they found was not exactly paradise and resulted in further bloodshed.
This book was better due to the protagonist being effected by the events she lived through enough to actually get smarter and change. She finally came to terms with the fact that the rules had changed and she had to do what was necessary in order to protect her family from the sick, the ruthless and unexpected.
I’m wondering what happens next, glad I didn’t give up on dumb Nila.

This narrator is ruining the listen.

It’s very difficult to focus on the story because the narration is so bad. She stresses every single syllable, almost sounds robotic. The clip didn’t sound too bad so I didn’t heed other reviews.
…. Should’ve listened. This is dreadful.

A little better

In my first review I stated how the protagonist is an overly emotional dim character that got a lot of people killed. In this book the blame is shared around a little bit but the chick is still pretty annoying. Hearing Lev's side make it more bearable. Overall the storyline is still good and some satisfying parts but I still don't agree that people would listen to Nila in actual circumstances. She's nor a good leader, a good shot sure but that's about it. Still good book for realism just absurd that people might follow someone so dumb who has gotten so many people killed.

Book 1 narrator is better

Storyline is great. Narrator sometimes sounds robotic and sometimes can’t figure out from who’s perspective she’s reading!
