Publisher's summary

It’s the $10 million heist you’ve never heard of. In a matter of months, dozens of truckloads disappeared from American highways. But what were they carrying? Nuts.

Marc Fennell takes you into a rabbit hole of crime syndicates, stolen identities and private investigators that will change the way you think about food forever. Eighty per cent of the world’s almonds are grown in the heart of California, but this journey will take you to Italy, the Spanish coast, deep under the earth and even into space.

Four hours to deliver a Five minute story.

The writing and production quality are top-notch. But for hours to talk I'm about an unusual crime that could be told in 5 minutes, is too much.

Unusual true crime

This audiobook makes you think twice about everyday foods. It was enjoyable with lots of twists and turns! Hearing an Australian experience various nuances of American life was also highly amusing.

Insightful, funny and surprising

I came to this podcast from a recomendation, but was definately listeneing when I found it was by one of my favourite journalists. Listening to an Aussie grapple (literally) with American gun culture without starting an argument was impressive. I didn't think a nut theft on the other side of the world from me would feel so relevant to my everyday life - I keep thinking about the almonds in my kitchen. I will definately buy nuts with more concideration in future.

Another Excellent Investigative Report

Marc is just a master at bringing the investigative report to life. I lived in California for 12 years and much of my family still lives there. It just goes to show you how little you know about what is really going on around you. I think if more people listened to Marc's books, they might be a little more attentive to the goings and comings in their own towns and neighborhoods and find a few anomalies really close to home! If we all weren't so absorbed with our tiny worlds and could think about how our actions affect much more than our tiny little worlds, we might be able to help crack the nut jobs more often!

I’ll never be the same!

The story line, the narration, and the facts about our agri-culture contained in this podcast have forever changed the way I see the grocery aisles! It’s NUTS what goes on behind the scenes!

that was very interesting!

this podcast was a real eye opener. Who would have thought that there was a sinister underbelly to our produce. Informative and very well presented.
