Publisher's summary

Veteran emergency dispatcher Hillary O'Neal can handle any crisis, until she gets the call that destroys her confidence. Now she spends every shift dreading what could happen and doubting whether she'll be able to handle another tragedy. Olivia Dennis joined the sheriff's department for the action and to fulfill the family legacy. But she could lose both when she's caught up in an internal investigation and assigned to a security desk at the communications center.

Hillary knows too well the danger the officers in the field face, and the last thing she wants is to get close to one. Besides, Olivia's obviously just as broken as she is right now. As they get closer, Hillary hopes their burgeoning attraction is as temporary as Olivia's desk duty.

Poor Reading Sabotages a Good Story

Would you try another book from Erin Dutton and/or Theresa Stephens?

From Erin Dutton, yes. From Theresa Stevens, only if she was reading non-fiction of the driest sort.

How could the performance have been better?

Stevens' reading sounded far too much like a news report instead of a romance--and this book was a romance. There was no emotional nuance at all, no attempt to inject any feeling whatsoever. The consistent cold tone made it impossible to 'get into' the story, which deserved much better.

Did Officer Down inspire you to do anything?

Seriously consider reading over listening in future.

Any additional comments?

I hate to be cold but--don't allow Stevens anywhere near fiction ever again.

Good story, not so good narrator

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I love Erin Dutton cop stories but the narrator has a flat monotone voice, no emotion at all. It’s hard to distinguish between dramatic moments from jokes or romantic scenes…really unpleasant to listen to.

Would you recommend Officer Down to your friends? Why or why not?

I would recommend sticking to reading as opposed to listening.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Theresa Stephens?

Some of my favorites are:
Abby Craden
Alexandria Wilde
Felicity Munroe
Coleen Marlo
Betsy Zajko
I would listen to pretty much anything narrated by them.

Love the story, hate the narrator

I'd read this book and was looking forward to hearing the audio version. It's a great story by an established author. But this narrator should be restricted to reading children's books. I absolutely hated the little-girl voice with which she read one of the main character's part. The last time I heard a female voice like that was when my nieces were round 8 years old.

good story brought down by horrible narrator

I liked the story but found myself intentionally putting my phone as far as possible to keep from changing it. the narrator was horrible. her man voices were strange, her inflections and tone sounded like a nervous student giving a book report to a class while forcing herself to not look up from the pages.

a really good listen

This story totally rocked. The narrator did a great job conveying the intricate flow of the story.

Don’t waste the credit

A very slow moving story is torpedoed by a HORRIBLE narrator. Seriously, who gave this woman a mic? On principle, I finish every book I buy, but I can’t with this one. I’m throwing in the towel.
