Elaine Rowe is a Toronto writer who likes to write for children (and others) about unexpectedly talented animals and resourceful women. After years of hiding her light under a bushel, she decided to see if anyone else likes her stories. As the author explains, "Old Wounds was sparked by a story I heard one evening on the CBC radio program 'As It Happens,' just as Myra does in this story. When I heard it, I wondered what had happened all those years ago when this plane disappeared. Who was waiting at home for the vanished pilot? What happened—or didn't happen—because he never came home? Myra appeared in my imagination and told me her story."
