Publisher's summary

Court Gentry, aka the Gray Man, is back – and once again on the run from old friends and foes.

Four years ago, Gentry was betrayed by his handlers in the CIA. Now, an old comrade, Russian arms merchant Sidorenko, returns to force him on a mission against his will: kill Sudan’s President Abboud, the supposed trigger for the Darfur genocide. But the CIA has its own plans for Abboud. With his ruthless employers on one side, his blackmailing former friends on the other, and a doomed mission ahead, Gentry would kill just to get out of this one alive.

Every bit as thrilling, informed, and addictive as The Gray Man, and once again skillfully narrated by Jay Snyder, On Target is sure to hit the mark for thriller fans.

Critic reviews

“An action-filled yet touching story of a man whose reason has long ago been subsumed by his work ethic.” ( Publishers Weekly)

Featured Article: The top 100 series of all time

The feeling of discovering that your favorite new listen is actually the start of a series is euphoric. That you can immediately hit play and re-enter a beloved new world, or love story, or era from history is a gift to the devoted listener. But how to pick just 100 of these unique and immersive listening journeys? We defined a series as having a minimum of three books, and—after some debate—we decided the titles had to be anchored in fiction. From YA to horror to historical fiction, from fresh voices to seminal tales, hours of discovery await.

Good book but bad details

Loved the book as a whole but details that don't check out annoyed me all through it. In Africa you don't have automatic gearboxes for your cars, the use of American units of measurement in the wrong places etc. Even if these are minor details, this kind of book is a detail-driven affair...so a four will have to do.
I really liked the narrator. It was easy to distinguish between characters and the pace and dialects were reasonably good.

The modern day Nicholai Hel on the horizon?

Gray Man would do well and become a more robust character with just a little Shibumi in his life but I like him nonetheless. I'm hoping as I go forward that the author adds additional dimensions to him. His operational skills are beyond question and clearly established, I'd love to see him balanced with a tinge of something that brings him happiness or peace and thus putting more at stake than the life we know the author can't take from us. Greaney tickled on it in this one so I'm excited and hopeful he decided to evolve this side of the Gray Man. This book topped the first, I'm hoping the trend continues!

Weak character

I was not enjoying the long and wussy self pity episodes.
A real warrior shrugs that kind of crap off and reinforces himself with confidence building internal dialog.
These kind of episodes of self recriminations dominated this book and he also had much less combat episodes where he dominated. .
I hope the next book has a lot less crybaby wussy man and much more butt kicking Gray Man.
The narrator gets a 5 star rating for a perfect job

Good, not great

Kept me interested and better than some others I’ve read / heard. I’ll keep listening to The Grey Man.

Keep me on the edge of my seat!

Loved it! The twists and turns kept me hooked on listening. Loved his smart ass sarcasm. On to the next book.

Good story

Nice…setting how you could get back in good graces but dealing with other people can lead things elsewhere. Good story but not as good as the first book.

very good but..

I really liked the story, but why a lot of authors present women as histerical and really dumb? Educational woman? I had to skip some portion because I couldn't roll my eyes far enough.
