Publisher's summary

A former Delta Force commander, Brad Taylor proves with this breathtaking debut thriller that Vince Flynn and Brad Thor have company.

A collection of top operatives, the Taskforce was commissioned by the highest levels of government, kept secret from the media and even Congress. The best of the Taskforce bunch, Pike Logan, knows the greatest threat to American security is one or two idealogues. Unfortunately for them, they’ve just crossed Pike’s path.

I’ll suffer through one more….

I liked the story, but the guy who voices “Pike Logan” drives me up the wall. I though their were new narrators for Book 2, but it looks like they narrate all the books. I’ll try one more, but the bad voice will likely override a good story.

Great!

I have no idea what some of those other people were listening to. This was a great story and truly kept my attention throughout the entire adventure.
I have a suggestion to those people who did not think this was a good story… get some headphones or earbuds. It must be a case of you loosing focus or missing the details.
Can’t wait for the next one.
Keep in mind; your comments might keep someone that enjoys these stories and knows what they are listening to from picking it. If you don’t have anything good or constructive to say, just rate the book! Most of us don’t really care about your opinion anyway.
Thanks,
Mark

Seems elementary

Very cliche. Narration too ….. Weird. I struggled to stay interested in the story. Not my favorite listen.

Absolutely… Terrible.. narration

This is personal preference obviously. I am not a big fan of narration trying to sound like multiple different characters. But sometimes it can work. This is without a doubt the worst narration of any audiobook I have listened to. And I’ve listen to a lot 50 to 60 titles. The main character pike, sounds like a whiny WWF wrestler. I I doubt you could search true special forces in the US and find a character who sounds like this. Just pick a voice and read the story. Kurt Hale, the task force, leader, sounds like a drunk in a bar. The whole thing is cringe. He. The only reason I had to keep going through it, is because I listen to a later book, from the same author with Pike in it, enjoyed the storyline, and decided to start from the start. If book number two has the same narrators, I won’t be buying it. Pikes character voice was so unbelievable for a special forces seasoned operator, it completely ruined the storyline for me. take a loan from other successful audiobook series - reacher, Scott,l Harvath, American, assassin, Gabriel, Allon, etc., etc. One narrator, one voice. Again, just my personal opinion.

Worst narration of any book I’ve listened to.

Narrators did a terrible job representing the characters. Made each of the characters seem like a cartoon.

Entertaining.

A good ride. Very entertaining. Good characters. I really like the main characters swashbuckling style. Looking forward to the next one.

Much better than expected

The reviews were not as good as for the following books, but I think it's a really good introduction to these new characters. I really lived this book.

Good premise

I enjoyed the book a lot. The use of an agent WMD made it very interesting.

Good Story, just not quite "Prime Time".

What did you like about this audiobook?

The modern technology used by Delta, and the wide range of mission tactics. The modern day warrior is significantly more advanced and complicated than the days of MACVSOG.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

I had to buy the second book as a result of increasing interest in the realistic story line. If Brad Taylor wrote it, it has to be an extrapolation of his or his groups history. I would love to read some of the after-action reports.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

I think Eric Henley, and Charley Beckworth jumped Taylor's butt for being too insightful. Taylor must be Americas' answer to James Bond. All kidding aside, this book is good and gives readers a look inside a very black world. This book would make a good TV series, oh wait a minute; that has already been done.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

I hated the deep gravely voices used to indicate different people in the scene. I found the performance amateurish and distracting. Good story, but get some one with more range than this narrator.

Do you have any additional comments?

The second book is much better than the first. I'm trying to find a copy of the third book. Evidently Audible hasn't heard of it yet. Get on the ball guys. I want to hear the third book.

I would also be very interested in knowing why Taylor left his group. Any S.F./Seal group/team is a family with bonds that are stronger than that of any sibling. I wouldn't be interested in hearing anything about age or retirement. Like it eludes too in the book, people like Pike have trouble assimilating into a world normal Citizens.
