Would they do anything to be successful?

Lana Brooks is a prolific and best-selling author who seemingly has it all: money, fame, and a dream apartment overlooking the Manhattan skyline. What could possibly be wrong in her life?

Confident in her writing abilities, Lana is shocked when a reader shreds her reputation while reviewing her latest release. Distracted by the review to the point where it affects her writing, Lana takes matters into her own hands, not realizing she is going to get way more than she bargained for.

Check out the bonus story, "Becoming Karen Carter", included!

Jessica Nichols wanted the one thing that eluded her - the distinction of becoming a best-selling author. The only thing standing in her way was a stack of rejection letters. Unable to get her foot in the door, she finds herself destined to spend her life working dead-end jobs.

Desperate to make it, and rapidly running out of options, Jessica crosses a line she can never come back from.

captivating novella!

Now I'm really scared to ever leave a one-star review...lol.
Totally enjoyed this quick which gives you two stories...one of an author who takes exception to a one-star review; the other of a would-be-author who assumes said author's identity. Both stories are captivating...I sat in a parking lot for 45 minutes to get to the end! Worth the read/listen.

Disappointment

I did not care for the book the story itself was OK but the narrator , no she did not do a good job it was her tone her voice it just didn’t go with the story that was in the feeling in it I mean if you hate somebody you don’t speak it as if you’re just learning to speak I’m sorry I just did not care for it

Good Read

One-Star Review: Bonus Edition was a good quick read by R.E. Sargent. This book included; One-Star Review and Becoming Karen Carter. One-Star Review followed Lana who is a bestselling author who has seemed to have it all. She has money, the fame around being a bestselling author, and her dream apartment. She is very confident in her writing ability until she comes across a reader who destroyed her latest release with a bad review. Lana decides to take matters in her own hands and crosses a line that will change her forever. Becoming Karen Carter follows Jessica who wants to become a bestselling author even though that is the one thing that has seemed to elude her. Unfortunately for her she has a large stack of rejection letters. She has been running out of options and crosses a line that she will never be able to come back from. I enjoyed reading this quick read that tells the story of how Jessica became Karen. Stephanie Pilavin did a great job of narrating the book as to where you are enthralled in what happens with the characters.

Enjoyed the book- hated the narrator!

This book was fun to listen to! There were some funny LOL moments and a few twists but the narrator was awful. I didn't mind her until she voiced different characters, SO nasally and whiny. If I didn't enjoy the book so much I don't think I would have finished listening to it. My urge to find out what happens to the main character and who was the next person to leave her a one star review is what kept me going. Cleverly written, this book is a must if you can get over the narrator.

More than 1 star

After reading this I may never leave another one star review! The story was good and having both perspectives was something new to me. The narration was light and fun for such a serious subject but it worked. I received this book at no charge in my review is my own.

I like the idea, not the execution.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased. Well I like the idea behind it but I just don't feel like it was executed very well.

Needs a different narrator.....

I love dark humor such as this. The narrator gave no life to the words. Her delivery is very robotic- her rhythm is sooooo off for this. She really does a disservice to the author's work here. I love writing like this- it just needs a better narration, someone with a little snark in their voice at the right times. There are many times during the story where, it's clear that the author wrote lines with the intention of sarcasm, maybe a little deadpan - but this narrator doesn't deliver AT ALL. I like the story, just get a better narrator- maybe someone like Mr. CreepyPasta.

Never give a one star review

I liked the 1st story. It was interesting in a demented way. The plot was interesting with just the right amount of creepy.
The narrator was a bit slow, but putting the speed to 1.25 was good. Her voices were not exceptional, but most of both stories were in the characters heads, so it didn't matter much.
I think the stories should have been reversed. Find Karen, then introduce her and her interesting ways of dealing with the bad reviews.
All in all I would read more by this author.

Totally Not A 1 Star Book

1 Star Review. What a book! I love the premise of the book. It really gets the reader thinking about what may be happening behind the scenes (somebody plotting your murder, for instance). It is one of the few books I've read this year that I truly thought about for more than five minutes after completion. This novella is thought provoking and unique as far as I've read.

I'm glad this book doesn't warrant a 1 star rating because I don't have a death wish tonight lol. No katanas in my future!
