About this listen

Taunting riddles. A deadly string of heists. Two broken hearts trapped in a killer's game.

Christian O’Brady was pulled into a life of crime at a young age by his con artist parents. Now making amends for his corrupt past, he has become one of the country’s foremost security experts. When a string of Southwestern art heists targets one of the galleries Christian secured, he is paired up with a gifted insurance investigator who has her own checkered past.

Andi Forester was a brilliant FBI forensic analyst until one of her colleagues destroyed her career, blaming her for mishandling evidence. She now puts those skills to work investigating insurance fraud, and this latest high-stakes case will test her gift to the limit. Drawn deep into a dangerous game with an opponent bent on revenge, Christian and Andi are in a race against the clock to catch him, but the perpetrator’s game is far from finished, and one wrong move could be the death of them both.

“An intense blend of suspense, love, and faith.”—Booklist

Riveting

This was a great book! It kept me interested and the story itself was fabulous! Another great one from Dani Pettery.

Reader was good. Story was pathetic

I have never given a book 1 star before, but I felt compelled to with this book. First of all, this is supposed to be a “Christian” book. Sadly, one little prayer here and there doesn’t quite cut it. The amount of sexual inuendo and suggestive text was repulsive. The characters knew each other for less than two days when they started caressing and kissing. How in the world does that qualify for wholesome and Christian?
My teen girls and I like to listen to a good mystery while on road trips so we picked out this one because of the good reviews. Mid way through the book all of us were so turned off.
When a book is well written with a good story line and well-developed characters, you don’t need all that fluff. It seemed like the writer just didn’t have anything else to write about so he filled it with watered down sexual text.
Aaaaand just to clarify, I believe sex in marriage is absolutely beautiful and real. I’ve been happily married for almost 20 years and we still have fun. But the junk in this book was 100% lust.
Didn’t even finish the book. Maybe it got better? I don’t really care to know.

Douglas Sabattis

Very good story. Character development. I really love the family dynamics. Looking forward to other books. Like how you develop the change in Deckers idea on Andy's innocence.

Brilliant start to a series

Thoroughly enjoyed the book, especially when it came to relationships with Jesus and how God always protects His children, so looking for next story

unnecessarily painfully long

75 chapters for a story that could have been told in 30. a decent story but not needing 75 chapters.

Another winner from Pettrey

This the first time I’ve listened to a male narrator for Pettrey’s books. It was helpful to hear the story from the guys’ perspective. However, Hutchison’s breathy voice was quite distracting. I kept expecting to hear him have an asthma attack. The characters were a bit difficult to track as his voices weren’t always consistent.
The story was excellent! The suspense and action kept me engaged to the end … as always.

Best work since the Charm City investigation series.

I really liked the characters and their interactions with one another. I also like the siblings story line.. I appreciate how Danni Pettrey makes strong characters who stay true to their nature. Some writers attempt to portray strong characters, but then make them so emotionally filled with anxt that they seem schizophrenic. I like that her characters don't do that. I also love the references to faith & prayer. Strong people truly get that!

Narrator Detracts

It's a great story from Dani Pettrey, but this narrator was tough to listen to. Weird inflections that turned a lot of sentences into questions when they shouldnt have been and constant breath catches. I'll finish the series on my e-reader if it's the same narrator.

Good Christian crime novel

I always enjoy good, Christian content. The camaraderie and romance between the protagonists was also enjoyable as I prefer stories when the protagonists work well together. however, though I enjoyed the general plot, I felt that it moved a bit slowly and was not as riveting or compelling as I've enjoyed in other books. but there was good action and teamwork at the stories climax, and I appreciated the nice romantic touch at the end. The narrator performed very well.
