Publisher's summary

Guarding witnesses? All in a day's work for deputy US marshal Carly Masterson. Protecting the judge who was indirectly responsible for her mentor's death? That's another story.

Still, she won't let harm come to Judge Nicholas Floyd, or the niece and nephew in his care. She's determined to do the job right, and not let her emotions take over - no matter how wonderful it feels to be accepted by the little family.

Can she let go of the past and learn to trust again before danger finds them once more?

Protective custody

Good quick read/listen. All her books tend to end the same but they are still worth listening to.

I loved this book, but Andrea Emmes almost made me stop listening to it. Her voice for me was just not right . However the plot and characters were wonderful and I loved all the aco.

when the narration kills the story

the book had a good storyline however the narrator sounded animated. it was awful as if I turned on the reading option on my kindle. No expression on the tone

Narrator sounds like a 12 year old child.

There was so little difference between character voices it was easy to lose track of who was saying what to whom.

Easy Listen

I like these books bc they are relatively short and easy to listen to. I almost quit this one bc the narrator just drives me crazy but I finished the book. I have listened to so many by this author that I can figure out the bad guy by the middle of the book. I finish listening just to see how it plays out. I will continue the series bc it keeps me entertained while I am working and I don’t have to worry about foul language or lurid scenes.

Great listen

Fast paced, twists and turns. Wonderful Christian based suspenseful romantic novel.
I’m glad this is #1 in a 3 part series.

Succinct and uplifting

This story is well done and represents about the best in the genre. The protagonists are likable with certain problems that they address so they grow throughout the story. It was nice to see two people act like adults in a straightforward manner discussing their feelings and problems. While the characters do exhibit inner thoughts of relationship angst and self-doubt which the audience knows but not the other characters, these instances are short and not repeated too often. The characters quickly address such thoughts openly with each other which help both grow into better people.

I liked the discussion of faith in the middle of suffering because of pain and evil. Faith was presented as an act of the will. This rings true to all who have experienced suffering, especially the innocent suffering, at the hands of evil men or sickness and death.

The plot’s has action scenes are well thought out, showing competent, but not 100% effective, LE as well as a male protagonist who is not shown to look weak so that the female can look strong. The female protagonist is competent and strong but not in competition with the male. The villains and their evil present the only melodramatic characters and moments in the story.

This is not one of the great books. The plot was pretty formulaic as are most in the genre, but because the characters were interesting, the message was uplifting and genuine, the action well paced, and the narrator good, it was a decent listen. I gave it 4 stars because it does what books in this genre are supposed to do, entertain and uplift.

Mechanical voice

Sometimes the narrator used a mechanical reading voice. It was very annoying. Story very short.

I should have read the reviews ...

I truly appreciate Lynette Eason's suspenseful stories, with a clean romance thrown in. This was no exception, although somewhat predictable. The narration left a great deal to be desired. Had I read the reviews first, I would have purchased the book in another format.
