About this listen
A Dark Romantic Suspense Thriller
Skyla Overland is proud to work for Overland Insurance, the company founded by her grandfather. Besides one nerve-wracking insurance fraud case in the past, her sheltered life is uneventful and just the way she likes it. Until one day, everything changes....
Skyla and Troy, the manager at Overland Insurance, are the last ones to leave the office. In the empty parking lot, Troy takes her in his arms. Why would he ruin their easy-going friendship by kissing her, especially since he knows she’s dating Edmond? Left alone, Skyla hurries to her car, puts on her seatbelt, and glances in her rearview mirror. The face of a stranger grins at her from the backseat.
“How nice to see you again,” he hisses close to her ear. Regaining consciousness, Skyla finds herself on the backseat of her own car, with her hands tied behind her back. Is she getting kidnapped? Who is he? And where is he taking her?

Perfect for me
Probably not the story for you if you have sensitivities and triggers. There’s rape, abuse, kidnapping. Not a lot of the gory details involved, but could trigger someone if they aren’t warned ahead of time.
If you don’t have any of these triggers, then I highly recommend this story! This had so many of the things I look for in a good story. The story moved along at a nice pace and I felt able to get into the head of the villain. My heart broke for the innocent victims involved, but I could tear myself away from this. I couldn’t stop until I found out what was going to happen next!
Well done.

Gripping, suspenseful and tastefully written
This story is jam-packed full of dark abuse, every woman’s worst nightmare even before adding in a few children, one at death’s door.
The author does an amazing job at painting these word scenes in a way that lets the reader see them in detail, and yet still remain “clean” without graphic scenes or language. Something I very much appreciated.
The story details flowed well enough that the reference to four months gone by, made perfect sense and the timeline did not feel forced or out of place. The progress made by the children and the deep bond between Skyla and the children built from fear and need also reflects the long months of winter trapped in that cabin together.
The narrator did a good job with a difficult task. The story being told from the perspective of several characters is never an easy narrative in audio form, but Belinda Lams did it well. The characters were individual and distinct.
Overall this was book was an excellent experience.

Kidnapped and Awesome Survival Skills
This story was very emotional. It was so well well written and Belinda did an awesome job narrating it that you felt every single thing happening. Skyla was a kind loving woman working in the family business. The kidnapper in this book has your jaw dropping when u find out who he is. This book does have trigger warning so look them up. If you don’t have any you will love this story. It shows you how strong someone can be even when attempted to be beaten down and let for broken. The children in this book were so brave as well and I’m so glad how it ended for them.

Overland
Overland was a great read with enough twists and turns to keep me guessing where the plot was going.
I was appreciative the author disclosed that this story included some child abuse and sexual assault...I thought might stop me from going further, however, I found the abusiveness to be sad, and yet handled in what I'd call a "soft" presentation.
I enjoyed the book and the story line and the way it was all woven together...I found myself not putting the book down until I finished it!
I have thoroughly enjoyed all of Ramcy Dieks books and would encourage anyone to stick with this story to the end.
I like the narrator, but felt like a few of her screams or fears were a little weak...But overall I enjoyed her presentation.
Keep writing Ramcy! I'm looking forward to your next read!

Excellent!
This one definitely needed a head's up on the possible triggers for child abuse and rape (which I received the head's up!).
This author does such a fantastic and tasteful (as can be) of telling this story of Skyla being kidnapped by a crazy man who expects Skyla to become 'mom' to his children. There's so much truth in the hurt for her and the children, the reader cannot help but believe it. Is she able to get away or does she simply adapt and live this new life? You'll need to read it to find out and I encourage you to do so!
I listened to the audiobook version of this book and Belinda Lams does such a wonderful job that I BELIEVED each word she spoke. She became each character in the book. Excellent story teller.
I definitely recommend.

Could have been a good book
The premise of the book was good, but the execution of the story was overly simplistic as if it were written by a teenager. The narration was overly dramatic and came across as almost hokie. I would not recommend this book to anyone with discerning tastes
