Prepper's Apocalypse - Prepper Post-Apocalyptic Survival Fiction - Prepper's Apocalypse, Book 1

EMP blasts started the apocalypse during Tom and his family's return flight to San Francisco from Hawaii. Surviving the crash only caused them to confront the chaos of the apocalypse head-on. Their fellow survivors were helpless and lacked the skills to survive. Tom, his sister, and their grandma survive the perilous trip from San Francisco to their ranch in Southern Oregon using their prepper skills to keep them alive during the anarchy around them.

OK story... if you plan on all 3 books

Pretty much the same as his The Day America Died series.

A few too many WILD stories in this one..... same goes for Book 2 & 3.

If you haven't read PATRIOTS, by James Wesley Rawles, go listen to that for a really good prepper story (even though it's not an EMP)

Is AJ Neumann a Woman or a Young Man?

The authors attempts at making strong female characters falls short. The women are still emotional and irrational as one would typically find in this genre but then they are also overbearing and opinionated instead strong. The men are spineless and unseasoned. All of this is accentuated by the narrators character voice choices. Killing off characters rather than allowing them to grow as one would expect them to do in dire situations is a questionable plot development choice. Finally the fact that the characters are continually striving to pair off in what is a dangerous long term situation is tragic story telling. People do not look to find some one to marry off to while staving off hunger and fighting renegades. Think of Maslov’s hierarchy of needs.

This is strictly a 3.5 star book. The bones are good but the editor should have done their job in properly steering the author better. It is only two hairs better than Grace Hamilton’s harlequin romance style of prepper fiction. And that is only because this author demonstrates some actual knowledge about the subject matter.

As a woman I admit my bias is coloured. I guess I just mourn the deterioration of this genre into pump and dump formulaic and unoriginal writing. Seriously though, ok read. Not a waste of money but disappointing on many levels.

EMP with a twist

I liked the vacation twist in this series, it gave it a little something different than the norm.

Great storyline

I am fascinated with apocalypse books especially with the COVID-19 virus being so new in the past year. I love listening to these types of books.
The author has a well thought out book and it is fascinating to understand how people think when they are prepper’s. Yes I do know it is fiction but it’s very intriguing and interesting to me. This story has action, suspense, intrigue, mystery, and romance. It’s about people trying to survive in a world that has gone to shit, or hell in a hand basket. The author has a way of writing a story that captures your attention and tell me to buckle up baby because we are just getting started.
The narrator does a fantastic job with the characters and the voices of each character making it easy to distinguish between the characters. I would not mind listening to more audiobook narrated by this narrator.
I definitely recommend this audiobook to everyone over 18 years old.

xenophobic author.

Paid for it so will listen to it. But the mention of "the China virus" in the first minutes, was offensive, bigoted, willfully ignorant and racist. I guess bigots are really into prepping, I forgot about their paranoia and resources

Not really a winner (not even an "also ran")

The book is just weak. poor writing style and inconsistent content. prepare to "suspend your disbelief". Too many things that don't match up. Clearly little prepper experience. I thought this book would be like A American 's books. NOPE. Not anywhere close. sad I spent a credit on it.

Disappointed

I have listened to a couple of series by Newman and they were pretty good! I couldn’t even finish the first book in this series, seems like Newman went to a writing class given by Thomas Watson. Totally unbelievable, the mild mannered prepper/survivalist turns into a super badass that knows everything, has everything....extremely disappointed...forced myself to listen after the first 20 mins. Narrators voice for some characters were like fingernails on the chalk board. Not your best work by far

terrible!

Read like an EMP Prepper education manual. stiff, sexist as all hell, and taught by the world's most over prepared human beings on vacation. It was all WAAAY too farfetched to be remotely realistic in any way. A 28 year old sounds like a wearied, exceptionally experienced, 55 year old former military, highly trained weapons expert. With thoughts and dialogue that sounds like an old stiff man, exhausted from the world and all the women in it. The non-stop talk of men vs 'the womenfolk' knocked me back about 40 years and was a huge reason I needed to stop listening. Mist be written by an old, white man.

And who is THAT prepped and weaponized on a family vacation?! There were more weapons coming off that plane than humans. ridiculous!!
Added to the above comments, the language, sentence structure, comments by poorly written characters was childish and simple. Very one dimensional. And the single WORST narrator ever!! I can't go on to any further books in the series-- I'm bored to tears and aggravated that this was even published for anyone above a 1st grade reading level.
