The Day America Died: New Beginnings

This novel explores what could happen if North Korea, Iran, and a few of our other enemies join together to destroy the USA with air burst nuclear weapons to create an Electromagnetic Pulse that would destroy our electrical grid and most electronics. The USA would immediately be plunged back to the 1850’s. Most people would die within the first six months.

Right after 9/11/2001, the President commissioned studies of all weapons of mass destruction. The one that scared the crap out of our military was the use of Nuclear EMP bombs against the USA. Nuclear EMP blasts using crude nuclear devices launched from container ships off our coasts from international waters would shut down our grid and fry all electronics. They would be undetectable before they exploded.

This would put the USA back 150 years. Kerosene lamps, wood cook stoves, and doctors without x-ray, modern medical devices, or miracle medicines. People with pacemakers would drop like flies when the nukes exploded. Diabetics, heart patients, and people living day to day with the help of some miracle drug will die during the first year. Many of the people on drugs for psychiatric reasons will become violent when they run out of the drugs. Death, chaos, and lawlessness would prevail.

Russia and China would love to see one of those rogue third world countries or Islamic terrorist countries nuke the USA and send us back to the Stone Age with EMP blasts so they could fight over the scraps. This story takes over from the current headlines and tells how regular people in the USA survive in a land of lawlessness and terror.

Zack Johnson is no hero; in fact, he has been lost since his divorce. He has spent his days drinking too much and chasing every woman he meets, but he does have some valuable prepper skills to help him survive. There is nothing like a nuclear apocalypse to help a man grow up and become a hero as he helps his family and friends survive. He is a thousand miles from home; the grid and all modern transportation have failed. The country is degenerating into violence and dog eats dog scenarios. People are killing their neighbors for a scrap of moldy bread or a sip of water. The remnants of the US Government are not helpful at best and his enemy at worst. The Department of Homeland Security is forcing people into relocation camps for their own good. Zack has to get back to Kentucky to find his daughter so he can take her to the safety of his farm.

Davi is an Israeli intelligence officer who flees to the USA after delivering the bad news that Iran and North Korea are about to nuke the USA and Israel. She must keep her mom and dad safe while finding a safe hideout.

Zack’s daughter, Callie, is 15 and is a daddy’s girl. She grew up hunting, fishing, and backpacking. She tries to keep her mom alive until the danger passes.

Zack goes from trying to figure out how to deal with his girlfriends and ex-wife to how to save his and his daughter’s lives while America becomes more dangerous by the minute. Watch Zack grow from near-do well to becoming a strong leader during this series.

Mike Norman is Zack's best friend and his ex-wife's brother. He is a ladies man who has to step up to the plate and keep Callie safe until her dad gets home. He knows Zack will get home. He just doesn't know what Zack will have to do to get home.

How are all of these people tied together? Are the attacks over and will the USA be invaded by the perpetrators of this heinous disaster? listen to The Day America Died and find out.

okay book

Great plot but it felt a little robotic at some points in the story.

Really made me think - what would I do?

Loved it! Really had me wondering what I would do if something like this really happened. Seems possible these days. I really enjoyed this audiobook and will definitely buy the next one in the series.

The Day America Died-Great Read

Once again, I was fascinated with yet another AJ Newman book. It held my interest for several hours and I was pleased to know that there was three other books. The Day America Died! Old Enemies, (2); The Day America Died! Frozen Apocalypse (3), The Day America Died! The Final Ending:. I can wait.

A good clean post-apocalyptic story

I have heard many stories from this genre. This one was one of the cleaner ones and yet still told a good story. I will be looking for more in this series.

Reads like it was written by a child

I tried to like it but was too distracted by almost mechanical dialogue. The constant sexual undertones really took away from the overall story, the author sent too much time describing and objectifying women as sexual objects rather than D characters of the story.

Realistic take on an EMP and Rural America

Had me from the beginning with lovable characters and realistic behavior from the world around them after an EMP. But there are some good people left in the world and this book centers on them. There’s also a little fun with the main character and some of his lady friends. Probably a little less realistic in that front but still fun twist in the story. After all - it can’t all be bleak and dangerous - there has to be a little fun sprinkled in too and it lightens up the time just a bit and kept me engaged. Loved B.C. Archer in this title.

Interesting scenario.

A good listen. The syntax was off sometimes and the reader was breathy to the point of being little annoying. The story line was good, not great.

Terrible writing, predictable plots

I purchased the first two books in this series for a roadtrip. The first was passable, though little in the story surprised me. The writing was terrible, at least, when considering it's from a "professional" author. The terminology, plot points and details were either; 1) a pepper author writing to justify their own opinions/purchases/expectations, or 2) the writing of a Progressive Liberal writing drivel to mock those who read it.
Don't waste your time/money. I can't even bring myself to finish the second book.
