Publisher's summary

Praised by Wall Street Journal best-selling author Ilsa Madden-Mills as "the usual Grey crisp writing, lovable heroes that you kinda want to slap, and a heroine that doesn't back down," Resistance on Ice is another fun standalone novel in the best-selling Boys of Winter hockey romance series.

Hockey star Nolan Solvenson is nothing short of skilled perfection, both on and off the ice. Or so everyone thinks. His teammates are constantly hitting him up for advice, but really, when it comes to his own life, Nolan can't seem to make the right moves anymore.

Blame it all on Lainey Shelburne, a woman he wants but is determined to keep at arm's length. That's why, after a few sexy encounters, he unceremoniously blows her off.

When they're reunited, facing off against the fiery cocktail waitress becomes the challenge of his life. Lainey is furious with him for dumping her and wants nothing more than to kick him in the junk. But Nolan - typical man - is only interested in getting Lainey back in his bed.

That plan is shot all to hell when they reach a shaky truce and Lainey drops the bomb that all she's looking for now is a "just friends" relationship with Nolan.

Take that, Mr. Hot Right Winger!

Suddenly, the "know-it-all" athlete is skating on thin ice as he tries to hide his burgeoning feelings from the one woman who has the ability to thaw his heart. But is Lainey willing to try a relationship with him again? Can Nolan resist the urge to walk away?

Resistance on Ice is a fun standalone novel and the second installment in the best-selling Boys of Winter hockey romance series.

Love! Love! Love!

Love! Love! Love! Nolan and Lainey are the focus of this second book of the series and I can tell you, S.R. Grey never lets up! There is humor, tension, emotions and hot scenes from start to finish in this book! What I really loved about this book is while Nolan is the alpha male with the protective instinct, and it's never really stated out loud, Nolan is portrayed with vulnerability. His past really has effected his outlook and Lainey is the woman who sees him for he really is. The team is in full view..Brent and Benny are front and center along with Lainey's sister Aubrey and the team owner's daughter Eliza. This ensemble really shows how good friends can help out and come through for you. In the first book, we saw a completely different side of Nolan, and it was really fun to get to know the reasons behind his behavior and how his future will be. I also loved how far Lainey would go to take care of Nolan(there is a scene....let's just say, dancing and lots of men). This was a great listen for my Saturday!

Reagan West is a new narrator for me, and she was wonderful. She has good pacing and her character voices are spot on for this group. I really am impressed with her ability to differentiate male voices, so many have difficulty with this, but her performance was a pleasure to listen to.

I LOVED IT!!!

This book is a standalone listen and part of a series. The narrator on this book (Reagan West) is different from the first book (Tracy Marks) as the characters focused in this story are Nolan and Lainey with only small mentions of Brent and Aubrey. I loved how the author wrote the Point of Views for Nolan and Lainey. This book is well plotted and is full of some real issues. I loved the glimpses into the continuation of Brent and Aubrey's relationship and how Benny is doing, plus a potential love interest for him. Nolan and Lainey had such great chemistry. I think the author did awesome with this book in its originality and humor and steam. My review is my opinion of the book and not a synopsis. I hope that Benny gets his story told next. I so enjoy it when a book ends in a happy ending and has room for continuation with other characters as the focus. The narrator did a good performance with the emotions but didn't have as much voice differences for the various characters compared to some other performers. I was given a copy of this book and have voluntarily written this review.

My Thoughts on Resistance on Ice

This was another really good story from SR Grey. This was my second book by her, but I think I can comfortably say I'm a fan. The writing is solid and entertaining. There was no issue holding my interest in the characters and the progression of their story.

Nolan and Lainey were a fantastic couple. They had great chemistry and it was so obvious they were made for each other despite previous thoughts from other characters to the contrary. Nolan had secrets and baggage and while I sympathized with him, I also wanted to smack him and tell him to get his act together. Lainey was just awesome. I loved her.

As for the narrator, I liked her but I didn't love her. There were moments where it seemed she paused in unnecessary places, and I wish her attempts at a male voice had been a bit more distinguishable from the female. That being said, I would give her another shot.

All in all I would certainly recommend this one.

Cute Hockey Romance

If you could sum up Resistance on Ice in three words, what would they be?

Humorous, Sexy, Sweet

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nolan - there are so many sides to his character and as the story goes on we get to see why he acts the way he does. There are times you want to hug him and other times you want to smack him upside the head with a 2x4.

What does Reagan West bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

This was my first book by Reagan and I enjoyed listening to her as a narrator. She did a good job bringing emotion to the characters and bringing different tones to her voice for each character in the story. She did a good job portraying the chemistry between the characters as well which you wouldn't get with just reading the book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I was looking forward to this book after meeting Nolan and Lainey in book one and this book didn't let me down. I didn't want to stop listening to see what happened next in the character's love story.

Any additional comments?

Fun, Sexy, Second Chance Romance!

I loved this second book in the Boys of Winter series! It was so funny, sweet, emotional, and sexy that I couldn't get enough of it! Nolan and Lainey were having a secret affair until Nolan felt too much for her and had to let her go. Now, months later, he has realized he needs her back in his life and in his bed. But is he ready to face his past and really put Lainey first? Lainey hasn't been able to forget the pain he put her through and wants to try being friends first. Nolan will do whatever it takes to prove himself to her. There were so many moving moments but so many hilarious situations as well. The banter was great and their chemistry was explosive! Reagan West's narration was spot on. She set each scene, drawing me in, and her voice changes for each character was perfect, allowing me to lose myself in this story. I am really falling for this team and can't wait for more!

Hilarious and Sexy Second Chance Romance

What did you love best about Resistance on Ice?

I really loved the witty banter and innuendo between Lainey and Nolan. They had amazing chemistry!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Resistance on Ice?

The nod to a very famous scene and toy in Destiny on Ice (book 1 in the series) at the end of this book was hilarious! I loved that Brent even acknowledged that him and Aubrey saw the glow! LOL!

Which character – as performed by Reagan West – was your favorite?

Lainey was great, but Nolan was my favorite. Yes, he was a manwhore and yes, he made some seriously stupid mistakes, but his inner monologue was endearing and hilarious.

I normally prefer a male and female narrator for books with a dual POV, but I really enjoyed Reagan's narration and thought she did an amazing job performing both characters.

Any additional comments?

Nolan's sexual history may be a little hard for some listeners/readers to accept, especially because it's not really that far in the past. I will admit that I had to relisten to that part to make sure I hadn't misheard. It did make it harder for him to redeem himself, but that just made the ending that much sweeter.

Fun, Sexy Times

If you could sum up Resistance on Ice in three words, what would they be?

Sexy, Fun, Sweet

What did you like best about this story?

The humor and the writing

What about Reagan West’s performance did you like?

Smooth, clear tone

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The humor is great, and I did get a little ticked at Nolan!

Any additional comments?

Fun story with great writing! Love the humor! I was excited to read Lainey and Nolan's story after reading the first book in this series, and I was a bit disappointed with this book starting with Lainey and Nolan apart, and I was super disappointed in Nolan! 9 strippers in 2 days! Ewww!!! Just so much eww!! Nolan had a really long way to go with me in seeing him in a better light, and I was really hoping that Lainey would make him really work to get back with her, but she doesn't resist for long, so I was a bit disappointed with that. I wanted her to stand her ground! I also felt like Lainey had more quirk to her after reading about her in book 1 some, but she didn't really have anything that made her stand out. I also wanted Nolan to be more assertive, but he just keeps making excuses, and I was getting tired of it, so I can see how Lainey was getting tired of it. Nolan has some past hurts that make him a manwhore, but I was still having a hard time with him. Everything else was great and entertaining, and these two have some hot times! They also have some fun times, and I liked seeing them connect in a way besides a sexual way. Nolan can be sweet sometimes, and these two can be adorable together. The hockey aspect is always entertaining too! I look forward to the next book, it's Benny's book, who is another manwhore unfortunately, but it's bound to be an entertaining one! Love to see manwhores find their true love! I'm also excited for Dylan's story! I listened to the audiobook version of this story, and the narrator does a great job. Smooth, clear tone!

A light and fun listen

Sports RomCom. Standalone, second in a related series.

Resistance on Ice is the second standalone in SR Grey’s Boys of Winter Series. I enjoyed the first, Destiny on Ice, and Resistance is just as good. It was a combination sports romance, second chance romance and friends-to-lovers romance in one well-narrated package. Just like the first in the series, it was pretty low on angst, funny and sexy. An easy, enjoyable read.

While the story stands completely alone, I do believe you will have a better experience if you read the first in the series, especially because one scene in Resistance really brought back the funniest scene in Destiny on Ice.

Lainey and Nolan had been secretly seeing each other. Aubrey (from the first book) is her best friend and is dead set against Lainey getting together with Nolan the Manwhore. Nolan is not a guy to get involved with. Sure enough, as soon as his relationship with Lainey started getting too good, he had to make sure to end it.

"I was being a real pr**k, I knew it, but I couldn’t help myself. My fear of commitment had reached fever pitch. I knew this one could hook me. And I couldn’t have that. I’ve been down that road before, and boy did I ever get burned. Never. Again."

He hurt Lainey really badly. But when she moves back to town, Nolan realizes he was a jerk and wants her back. But she isn’t going to let herself get hurt by him again.

“We need to step back and concentrate on being friends, Nolan. And I mean just friends.”

It’s so much fun watching this couple try to torture each other with “friendship” when they are so obviously more. But Nolan is still not "there" yet, even though he really wants her. And he has been hiding something important from her for a good while now.
“For the record, I’d never do anything like that to you.”
“I’d never give you a chance.”
“Wow, that’s harsh.”
“It is what it is, Lainey.”
“And therein lies our problem,” I snap.

Lainey is a bit immature and Nolan is as well, so they are good as friends. The problem is, they can't keep their hands off eachother, nor can they keep from getting emotions involved.

Likes:

•Light and fun with a little angst.
•Visits with previous characters.
•I laughed out loud.
•It stands alone fine but is even funnier if you read the first.

Dislikes:

•Wrapped up a little too quickly at the end.
•She does a few things that are ridiculously stupid.

The Narration:
Reagan West had a great voice for narration. Because it was alternating first person narrated by only one person, you would usually need to have the narrator easily able to have two voices, one for each character. Raegan didn't do that very much, but the way it was written gave so many continual clues on who was speaking, that I never got confused.

The Down & Dirty:
Resistance on Ice was a fun and sexy sports novel that incorporated sports, romcom, 2nd chance and friends to lovers. It was a cute, fun way to pass the time and I enjoyed listening very much. A few things she did made her a little too stupid and doormat-like, but not to the point of me disliking her except for one really stupid move, but it was a pivotal scene. Though it stands alone fine, I think reading (or listening) to Destiny on Ice first would provide the best reading experience, especially if you like glowing green neon!

Hot!

I love how their story developed. They love each other but fight the attraction so much and so long that it makes a great story. The narrator could use a little more work with not sounding so monotone but she did a good job. I did have a question for the author...is that toy real? =D
