The plane is jam-packed. Every seat is taken. So of course the flight is delayed! Flight attendant Allegra Patel likes her job—she’s generally happy with her life, even if she can’t figure out why she hooks up with a man she barely speaks to—but today is her twenty-eighth birthday. She can think of plenty of things she’d rather be doing than placating a bunch of grumpy passengers.

Sydney Shaw, like every single woman in New York, has terrible luck with dating. She’s seen it all: men who lie in their dating profile, men who stick her with the dinner bill, and worst of all, men who can't shut up about their mothers. But finally, she hits the jackpot. Her new boyfriend is utterly perfect. He's charming, handsome, and works as a doctor at a local hospital. Sydney is swept off her feet. Then the brutal murder of a young woman—the latest in a string of deaths across the coast—confounds police. The primary suspect? A mystery man who dates his victims before he kills them.

Story
Ta-Nehisi Coates originally set out to write a book about writing, in the tradition of Orwell’s classic “Politics and the English Language,” but found himself grappling with deeper questions about how our stories—our reporting and imaginative narratives and mythmaking—expose and distort our realities. In the first of the book’s three intertwining essays, Coates, on his first trip to Africa, finds himself in two places at once: in Dakar, a modern city in Senegal, and in a mythic kingdom in his mind.

A great guide if you are thinking of a move
It covers everything—from the basics like visa requirements and healthcare to the fun parts like finding your dream home and diving into the local culture.
What really stands out is how well-researched and detailed it is. You can tell the authors really know their stuff, and they break things down in a way that’s easy to follow, even if you’re totally new to the idea of relocating abroad. I loved how they touch on practical concerns like managing your finances and navigating the Portuguese healthcare system, but they also make room to talk about the joys of living in Portugal—like the food, the stunning landscapes, and how to really immerse yourself in the local communities.
The narrator does a great job of making you feel like you're having a friendly chat about your exciting new adventure. It’s not overwhelming or overly technical, just a really solid, step-by-step guide to making your retirement dreams in Portugal come true.
If you’re serious about retiring to Portugal, or even just curious, I’d highly recommend giving this a listen!

Beautiful place to retire
As I move closer to retirement, I have been looking at alternative places to retire to. I found this audiobook on Portugal and fell in love. The author did a great job at explaining both the pros and cons of such a move and how to make it happen if that becomes our choice. I found the book to be easy to follow and was easy to take notes as I listened. I highly recommend if your considering retiring to Portugal.
