Publisher's summary

Every once in a while, you need to get away from it all.

I was a woman on the edge, shaken and shattered after a breakup that felt like it tore my entire world apart. My best friend, sick of watching me drown in misery and melancholy, harassed me until I agreed to go with her on a weeklong wilderness retreat.

She promised days spent bonding and getting in touch with our inner badasses. It was supposed to be all about the two of us roughing it and making do with the bare minimum. She assured me we were going to be pushed to our limits in ways that were unimaginable. Neither one of us could have ever guessed just how right she was.

Nowhere in the glossy brochure did it say anything about the fact I was going to have to battle the insufferable but deliciously rugged and sexy trail guide instead of the elements. The brochure also forgot to mention the part that warned when you left civilization behind, there was no place to pack your inhibitions and fears.

I was told that I would be facing a week where the only thing I should expect was the unexpected. However, no one mentioned that I was going to have to fight for my life - and my heart - as soon as I ventured into the unknown. I was a pro at hiding from my feelings, but when it came time to face a real threat, one that could change everything, I learned I was more of a no surrender, no retreat kind of girl.

Retreat is a stand-alone novel, the first in the Getaway series, which centers on the hardheaded and brokenhearted Warner brothers and the women who dare to love them.

These boys are very good at putting the wild in wilderness.

5 Retreat Stars

I loved this book and I am going to tell you why.

First we have to talk about the incredible relationship Leo & Em have, they are what everyone should have in a best friend. Leo is in need of some girl time and some time to come to terms with things from her past.
So Em convinces her to come with her the journey isn’t easy but I loved that Em was there for Leo no matter what.
And in turn when Em needs her Leo is there for her. It’s incredible to have a friendship like that.

We meet Cy, and his brothers. But it’s Cy that draws Leo in. She can’t help it this gruff brooding man has that something she is just drawn to, but it’s not one sided either. And they both try hard to ignore it but that’s the thing about attraction right; when it hits you are all in wither you’re ready or not. (The Shower Scene people is hell-a HOT!!)

Their experience is something no one saw coming and it’s going to change everyone involved. I loved the action and the interaction between all of the characters. It’s not like your everyday romance book it’s so much more. And I can’t wait for the second book in this series! I need more.

I wasn’t sure of Natasha’s narration at first I kind of had to get used to her and her voices for the different characters. But once I did, I quiet enjoyed it.

Worth the credit.. Umm YEAH!

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

Two thumbs up!

I loved the narrator. I honesty didn't realize that it was a female narrator throughout the whole book.

I can't stand the narrator

Any additional comments?

I always read a couple reviews before purchasing a book but when it comes to jay crownover there is no need to read reviews because she writes some good shit. I regret not reading this review because the narrator ruin it.

Retreat was a little too cliche for my tastes, but more than that the narrator killed it for me.

The narrator made me feel as if I was listening to Mary Poppins rather than a romance novel.

I LOVED THIS BOOK

What did you like about this audiobook?

YES the characters were well developed and the storyline was unexpected. I like this author and cant wait for the other books for the other brothers.

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

I enjoyed the chemistry between the main characters and did not want it to end.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

The narration was ok but she is not one of my favorites. A dual narration might have worked better

Are you really a cowboy?

Love and horses in one lovely book about heart broken people. A great escape for an afternoon.

Good story, strong characters & unique plot, but...

I loved the H & other characters. The supporting cast and setting were interesting. I, however, found that the h’s inner dialogue was a bit... verbose. The inner thoughts of the h were at times repetitive with too much description; which in my opinion interferes a bit with the pacing of the story.
I’m committed to finding out more by reading the next in series, but I’m hopeful that the voice of our next h is distinct, and less wordy with her inner ramblings.
I found I rushed & skimmed to get through our girl Leo’s thoughts, even though I liked her.

Also, I found the pacing of the narration a bit slow, for me, so I revved that up on Audible as well.

Oh the tears and excitement!!

I read this book as soon as Jay released it. I just finished listening to it. It is definitely getting added to my relisten list. Natasha did an amazing job relaying the emotion that were laid out by Jay. A must read/listen.
