Publisher's summary

From the founders of the trailblazing software company 37signals, here is a different kind of business book one that explores a new reality. Today, anyone can be in business. Tools that used to be out of reach are now easily accessible. Technology that cost thousands is now just a few bucks or even free. Stuff that was impossible just a few years ago is now simple. That means anyone can start a business. And you can do it without working miserable 80-hour weeks or depleting your life savings. You can start it on the side while your day job provides all the cash flow you need. Forget about business plans, meetings, office space - you don't need them.

With its straightforward language and easy-is-better approach, Rework is the perfect playbook for anyone who's ever dreamed of doing it on their own. Hardcore entrepreneurs, small-business owners, people stuck in day jobs who want to get out, and artists who don't want to starve anymore will all find valuable inspiration and guidance in these pages. It's time to rework work.

Editorial reviews

" Rework takes aim at marketing, hiring, and other disciplines associated with building a business as if they were bottles lined up against a wall. Then it blows them away...Fried and Hansson are the Henry David Thoreaus of entrepreneurship." (Leigh Buchanan, Inc. Magazine)
" Rework is a Webby manifesto for post-recession success. Forget about strategic planning, [the authors] advise. And ignore your competition - unless you feel like picking a public fight." (Nick Summers, Newsweek)
"I want to buy a copy for everyone I know either to validate their current business practices or to expose them to alternative ways of doing things." (Alexis Rodich, Washington Post)

Interesting approach to business

Where does Rework rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've only listened to 3 audiobooks so far, and this is my 2nd favorite one.

What did you like best about this story?

New ideas about approaching business and firm evidence that just because something has always been done in a particular way, doesn't mean it can't be changed.

What about Mike Chamberlain’s performance did you like?

Good presentation voice; I like him very much.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

We know how to do stuff and old people don't.

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed listening to this book very much. The youth and innovative thinking of the writers, with their obvious success with Basecamp, gave lots of great approaches to business with different thoughts. I did feel the authors were aa bit arrogant their approach and general mindset that "the old way of doing business is dead". I think they took that approach a bit too far in some areas, but overall a good book that is worth listening to.

Packed with advice without the fluff

What made the experience of listening to Rework the most enjoyable?

Many business books are filled with fluff. They drag on long personal stories that can be shortened into a paragraph. Not this book. This is a short book that gets to the point. The advice from the authors is solid. Anyone wanting to start a business or improve their existing business can benefit from reading this book.

What about Mike Chamberlain’s performance did you like?

He sounds into it. Good job with fluctuating his tone of voice. Good performance.

Excellent! Blockbuster common sense!

Shatters alot of assumptions while providing real alternatives. One of the best books I have read in 2014 on business. No fluff just to the point.

Good perspective but limited explanation

Great to hear from a company that doesn't follow conventional dictums about how to structure your company. Would have preferred a bit more explanation, or elaboration, or details on how and why they made their decisions. A lot of it comes off as Do this, Do that, and it reads/sounds more like a user manual than a business book intended to help business owners generate ideas, or to convince people of their perspective.
