Publisher's summary

Why can dating be such a disappointing and challenging endeavor? On its face, dating seems pretty straightforward. Going on dates and getting to know other people should be simple. However, as we get further into our dating journey, we begin to encounter a host of challenges, such as finding someone with whom we are compatible, getting someone we like to like us back, competing with others, being asked out by the wrong person, being rejected, having difficulty expressing ourselves, or having too many options or too few.

For years, I searched for help in the form of tips, tricks, strategies, and others’ advice. I tried everything from adjusting my clothing, buying cologne, reading dating books, taking communication classes, to watching the movie Hitch, like, a thousand times. I even thought about buying a motorcycle at one point. I was convinced that if I could just change my technique, dating would start to work for me.

I want to level with you and tell you what I think the real problem with dating is. The idea is this: In dating, we might have a hidden agenda that is contrary to the supposed goal of ending up happy. What is this hidden agenda, you ask? We would rather be right than happy. The purpose of this book is to invite you to discover why the pursuit of being “right” actually causes a whole host of problems that consequently sabotage our success in dating and ultimate happiness. This idea explains why dating has been so disappointing and why changing our goal can transform not only our dating experience but the outcomes as well.
