What do you get when you put a heavyweight boxer, a full-blooded Apache, an itinerant preacher, a movie stuntman, and a bunch of other colorful misfits together in the jungles of Guadalcanal behind a grizzled old sergeant on a mission to take out a Japanese observational post? You get the Rat Bastards and a whole mess of blood and guts. Ray Porter performs this audiobook as if between puffs of a cigar in the back of a helicopter, dripping blood and sweat. This WWII adventure story is a violent and gritty ride where you’ll hear glorified heroics next to real gritty, problems - from jock itch to Dear John letters - that soldiers have to deal with.
