Best Ruby in series IMHO!

Loved listening to these on public radio during the mid-80s! This is the best Ruby: funny, charming, dynamic, and the story themes still hold relevant today. Journey to Suma Nulla and meet fantastic characters on this wonderful, futuristic adventure. Ruby is a galactic gumshoe . . . a good one!

needs more than one listen

I absolutely loved Ruby 1, and this was a little different kind of story, because it explains some things and not others, so I had no idea that there actual story was, but like a lot of other things, I was overcomplicating a rather simple story, which became apparent when I gave it a second listen. The Ruby series is a high quality set of stories, and this one deals with a surveillance aspect that takes a little getting used to, but still very much a fun ride.

Not Ruby 1 by any stretch

I remember this being my least favorite edition when I had these on cassette over 20 years ago. Ruby stories are kooky, full of ridiculous jokes and padded with random skits. This felt like it was even more padded with these things. Which isn’t terrible, but I quickly felt the simple story get left in the dust for comedy skits and slap stick. Performances were great and foley artists were spot on with atmospheric sound effects.
I have this to complete my collection but won’t be hopping back to it for a while.

I keep listening over and over the years!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This series is refreshingly different and I can see it lending itself as a "cult" classic. The closest I can offer are Douglas Adams and Tom Robbins. I just loved the absurd humor in this.
I love the fact that the Ruby series are full cast and extremely well cast! I especially love the voice of the woman who plays Ruby. It's a combination of Humor, Fantasy, Science Fiction, mythology, and Spiritual Philosophies.

Who was your favorite character and why?
Ruby! Her comedic delivery is impeccable!

Aeon Flux meets Harvey Birdman

The story is almost non existent, but it doesn't really matter. This is an incredibly entertaining audio drama. More of a collection of vignettes that describe the world the characters inhabit. Lack of story aside, the world (which is the same from Ruby 1) feels incredibly fleshed out and the characters believable. The production quality is amazing; great voice acting and a great sound track. ZBS did such a good job on this and it's criminally under appreciated. You may love or hate this based on the lack of a coherent story, but it's not to be ignored either way. It's really a work of art.
