About this listen

Powerful monsters and magic. A new caretaker has arrived. Welcome to the Sanctuary....

After disaster brought me to Stonefield Sanctuary, I figured it was all a dream.

It’s not every day you discover you’ve been selected to become the next caretaker of a preserve full of monster girls, fantasy creatures, and magic I’d only seen in games or read about in books.

Now, the residents need help, and I’m the only one who can save them.

I’ll need to earn the trust of my allies, including the beautiful monster girls at my side, to complete quests, build defenses, grow stronger, and defeat our enemies.

Only then, will I become the most powerful caretaker any sanctuary has ever seen.

Time to get started.

I’ve got cards to collect, skills to develop, a town to build, monster girls to rescue, and mysteries to solve.

All I have to do is ensure I survive long enough to do so.

Check This One Out

Right up front before you read any further just know that I recommend this book to anybody thinking about giving it a shot. A little context for my review. I tend to take it easy on the first and last book of any series as not every series makes it to “The End” and the first of anything can be a shaky endeavor. I also try to make clear the distinction between the quality of the writing/performance of the author/narrator and my personal tastes should they differ. In this case they did not. The writing was solid right out the gate. The main character helps his mother on some type of animal sanctuary. There's a barn fire and he finds his mother dead inside. As he's carrying her out part of the structure collapses on him. He makes it outside with her but soon passes out as he's being pulled away by a pair of big hands. He finds himself in this new environment. He's destined to be a caretaker of one of the sanctuaries scattered across the globe. He hasn't left earth or gone to another reality slash dimension. These sanctuaries are hidden from mortals or mundanes by magic. His mother is dead, but his grandfather is alive? You're going to have to read the story for yourself to find out more. He has a bag of holding and there are these cards which you can use to summon everything from a bed to a familiar. Also, there are monster ladies that are supermodel level gorgeous. Anyway, I don't want to risk spoiling anything in this new series. The author appears to be relatively new with this one appearing to be his second series. The first is a four-book collection that has been completed and is available in a box set or a four in one audio book. He also has his own website and a Patreon where you can find additional artwork and maps if you're interested. Personally, I love the quality covers of the gentleman's books and I definitely recommend you check out his “Bonded Spirits” series. Moving on to the narration team, I can easily say they're in my top five favorite narrators of all time. They were the team that performed in the “Bonded Spirits” series, and I think the first time I came across them was in “A Mage’s Cultivation” series. I've never “seen” them execute less than a fantastic performance and as such highly recommend any story they're attached to. Lastly, I'll just say well done to everybody who had a hand in bringing this story to us, the Audible listeners.

Great tale!

Great tale, great narration. Hazel and Christian are a great team. The story took me about a chapter to get what was going on but after that it flowed well and the story was rather addicting.
Interesting side note, with this cold bomb generational cyclone thing hitting the US hard right now, woke up early to make sure the fire was going strong in case of a power outage from the storm. So spent the morning finishing up the book on the couch staring lazily at the fire when I did in fact lose power for a bit, Added a few logs and was fine until it came back on. So, I never thought i would say this, but an audio book may have just actually saved me from freezing to death!

Interesting story

As the title says, it's quite interesting and I like the cast of characters. Only found a couple things that nagged me.
First was that some events felt too rushed. It's first person POV. if details are going to be omitted have it be due to introspection or by showing how the character feels.
Second was with the narration. I do feel that they did a great job and gave the characters their own voice. However, I do think they could have a bit more emotion to them as they felt slightly flat to me.

very good first book of a series

this was a very interesting book. I've never been into card style rpg games but this one intrigued me throughout. it was very well written and thought out. as usual Christian and hazel knock it out of the park. they are easily one of the best duets out there. I recommend this book.

awesome 👌

A very entertaining start to a new series. the narrators did a great job at bringing the characters to life and making them distinct. I recommend this to anyone with an interest in the genre. Be warned it is for adults.

Interesting

I find the card element of the magic system to be interesting. The characters are fun to read about in their interactions and personalities. Looking forward to the next.

Sanctuary

The story and characters are interesting. Too many questions left unanswered the the MC doesn't even think to ask.

intresting

so this is interesting. The main character is chosen to take care of the monster girl sanctuary, has to build trust, and enjoy his time saving the monster girls.
