Cracking the communication code between husband and wife involves understanding one thing: that unconditional respect is as powerful for him as unconditional love is for her. It's the secret to marriage that every couple seeks, and yet few couples ever find. While both men and women deserve both love and respect, in the midst of conflict the driving need for a woman is love and the driving need for a man is respect. Gary Thomas, pastor and best-selling author of Sacred Marriage, believes that one simple word can bring hope, light, and life into any marriage: Cherish. Most marriages survive by gritting teeth and holding on. But what if surviving marriage wasn't the goal? What if we aimed to thrive instead? In Cherish, Thomas teaches us that although there are a countless number of marriages consisting of two people just going through the motions, there are real ways this pattern can be reversed.

Few subjects are as compelling-or as endlessly variable-as love and marriage. The Bible is filled with references to husbands and wives, from the story of Adam and Eve to advice in the New Testament, each open to interpretation. In The Meaning of Marriage, Timothy Keller, pastor of New York's Redeemer Presbyterian Church and bestselling author of The Reason for God, uses the scriptures as his guide to show readers what God's call to marriage is, and why this is such a powerful call.

Can it help, yes.
If you could sum up Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts in three words, what would they be?
Useful, insightful, yes!
What other book might you compare Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts to and why?
I don't know what I would compare it to but I would recommend its use with professional counseling. It makes all the difference in the world and really helped me refocus on the parts of this book that make me a better fiance and eventually wife. Other great books: The relationship cure, The 5 Love Languages... really anything by John M. Gottman.
What about Les Parrott and Leslie Parrott ’s performance did you like?
I love that they are being real. They wrote this, they lived it and they are telling you about what they have learned, even how they learned it. They have a ton of valuable experience in this area.
What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
You must cultivate contentment! Learn to adjust to things that are out of your control and avoid the blame game!
Any additional comments?
I didn't like that it constantly sounded like a commercial for the Symbis assessment. I'm sure that it's a great assessment (I admit I haven't taken it) but I think too much time was spent repeating that advertisement for it; the commentary finally got shorter toward the end of the book.

The Bible of Marriage
What a great book. One all married couples should read together and new relationships should read before considering marriage without a doubt.
From every chapter we received practical guidance and feedback on areas we needed to recognize, address and improve.
The biggest takeaway was learning I was the one that needed the most help and understanding more than my spouse.
